The luxury yacht builder ICON yachts has an impressive order book for a relative newcomer to the superyacht industry. The Dutch company has a total of 444 m in luxury yachts currently in-build at their facility. With a combination of new builds, refit projects and cooperation with other builders such as Mega Marine, the yard is looking ahead to a successful year.

ICON Yachts moved into its shipyard in 2007 and has developed from initially focusing purely on building pre-engineered technical platforms to offering totally custom built yachts from 30-150 m along with refit capabilities and strategic alliances with other established superyacht yards.

The shipyard, situated in Harlingen, is about twenty years old and is located on reclaimed land outside of locks and bridges with direct open water access for yachts up to 160m in length with a draft of up to 7m and a clear mast height in the main assembly dry dock of 28m.

ICON Motor Yacht Sunbeam

The 43m ICON motor yacht Sunbeam, was the most recent launch for the yard. Although not an Icon Yacht, the shipyard reports that the client’s representatives, Mega Marine, are extremely pleased with the enthusiasm and flexibility with which the yard has encompassed the project.

The Owner intended creating a highly innovative and modern vessel with many unique design features and we rose to each challenge, no matter how complex, working in unison with numerous sub-contractors to ensure the requests became a reality” comments Captain Carsten Franik, one of several in-house experts of the Mega Marine new construction division.

“We are extremely pleased to report significant increase in market activity and now have orders stretching into 2014.”

M/Y Midlandia

Icon yachts are scheduled to complete their fourth superyacht; the 63m project Midlandia motor yacht in early 2013 and is preparing the construction of an ICON 62motor yacht.

Jen Wartena Director of ICON Yachts comments: “We are extremely pleased to report significant increase in market activity and now have orders stretching into 2014. With the recent signature of a letter of intent for a new construction concept based on the Icon 62 we are further establishing our market position in the list of highly regarded super yacht builders in the Netherlands. The repaint contract in cooperation with Balk Shipyard on the 60m motor yacht Slipstream underlines our ability to serve competitively in the refit sector.”

There are also larger superyacht projects still on the drawing board such as an ICON 73m superyacht design in collaboration with the Hotlab design office and an ICON 85m Mega yacht (under 3000GRT) design that has developed from the yard’s hull platform will be released at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show.
