Australia: The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show Opens Thursday

May 17, 2010

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show starts this Thursday with a fantastic line up of marine products valued at millions of dollars.

The 22nd annual Show is staged at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast from Thursday, May 20 to Sunday, May 23 from 9am to 5pm daily.

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

This year’s event has drawn 421 exhibitors with on-water displays at the marina, hardstand displays through the waterfront Marine Village and exhibits through three large pavilions.

“Visitors can wander past close to 200 boats on water ranging from super yachts through to glamorous luxury cruisers, sail boats and multihulls,” said Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show general manager Mr Barry Jenkins. If placed bow to stern, on-water displays would stretch close to 3km.

On land, a wide range of marine craft are displayed with wakeboard vessels, trailerable boats, jetskis and kayaks. Three large pavilions showcase electronics, engines, marine safety gear and services.

This year two new components have been introduced – a Prestige Brokerage and Charter area on water and a dedicated Sea Trial area which is an Australian first.

“We know international exhibitors or buyers are coming from United States, New Zealand, China,
Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkey and Italy to name a few countries,” said Mr Jenkins.
“This year we have a contingent of Italian marine companies exhibiting in C pavilion for the first time.”

There are 107 world and Australian marine product releases in close to 15,000sqm of pavilion and hardstand display space.

In the luxury motor yacht area, vessels at the Show include the 22m Adagio from New Zealand; two Assegai custom built sport fishing boats and the world release of the Endurance 750 pilothouse.

Princess showcases the Princess 78 Motor Yacht in an Australian launch while Sunseeker releases
three new vessels – the 80 Yacht, 86 Yacht and 30 Metre Yacht and there are three new relaases on the national market from Fairline.

“It is very difficult to put a figure on the value of these displays. Certainly the combined marine displays at the Show would top some hundreds of millions of dollars,” said Mr Jenkins. Some vessels alone are worth millions of dollars.

Australian companies Maritimo, Riviera, LeisureCat, Lizard Yachts, Clipper Motor Yachts and Van Munster Boats launch new vessels on the world market.
New boats in the under 50ft power category include the Arvor 215, the 46 sedan from Alaska Motor Yacht range, the Sea Doo Challenger series and debuts from Mainship Trawlers and Nimbus.

Sail boat brands are strong with Bavaria, Catalina, Oceanis, Fountaine Pajot, Hunter, Imexus, Lagoon.

Montebello and Scandinavian Yachts to name some new releases.

“Ticket sales have been strong for the Australian Marine Industry Breakfast facilitated by Gold Coast City Marina,” said Mr Jenkins. This ticketed public event features Thom Dammrich from the US, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and president of the International Council for Marine Industries (ICOMIA) as guest speaker. The breakfast is held on Friday, May 21 at Hyatt Regency

Superyacht Sea Eagle sold for “fire sale” price at Auction.

May 14, 2010

Harvoort motor yacht SEA EAGLE

Megayacht SEA_EAGLE, a 112ft Hakvoort owned by a financier indicted for defrauding investors of more than 7 billion US dollars, sold at auction this week for $3.25 million in what his lawyers term a “fire sale” price.

SEA EAGLE was put up for auction on the 11th of March, with an opening bid of $2.5 million and a preset 60 day bidding period. Before the auction, the owner’s lawyers had argued that the opening bid was too low. According to a report by Bloomberg News, Ruth Brewer Schuster, one of the owners lawyers objected by asserting ““Mr. Stanford invested over $16 million in renovating the Sea Eagle, stripping the vessel to its hull and rebuilding it into one of the finest sport fishing boats in the world,”. “Any failure to sell the SEA EAGLE for an amount far and above the asking price of $6.5 million will be a complete waste of estate assets.” The SEA EAGLE was refitted by Hakvoort from 2005 to 2006 and her MTU engines had only clocked 471 hours.

The 112-foot Hakvoort motor yacht SEA EAGLE was built in 1998. The yacht was seized along with other assets in February 2009, after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed suit against the owner. A federally appointed receiver for the SEC is now selling assets and investments to raise funds to help repay creditors and investors. Ardell Yacht & Ship was appointed the central agent for the federal receivership of M/Y SEA EAGLE.

Despite the protest, the Harkvoort motor yacht SEA_EAGLE was ordered to be sold at that opening bid, “as is, where is.” The sale at auction included all personal belongings left onboard including sculptures, silver, crystal, china, linens and rods and reels to name a few.

According to Bloomberg News, there were just 2 bidders, with one returning two hours before the auction’s end on the 10th of May to place the final bid.

The New Curvelle Catamaran – Curvelle 33X9

May 11, 2010

Curvelle is a luxury catamaran building company that has been around since 2004. They are best known for their team of finest architects and their vision of creating yachts that will change the cruising forever. Their yachts are created with twin pleasures of absolute comfort and unbeatable performance, their hull design is absolutely efficient, using less power and fuel.

Curvelle 33X9

Their latest catamaran is the 33 metre Curvelle 33X9 that offers more stability, more value, more speed, more space and more flexibility. The company thought at first, that some of their design objectives seemed absurd. Here is why …

They wanted a yacht that is half the price of a performance mono hull with 50% more space. It has a flexible layout to customise each cruise, superior stability at any speed and at anchor. Greener with at least 30% better fuel efficiency, with a performance of 25 knots and an ocean going displacement hull. And last but not least a Trans Atlantic range. However, the result is exactly what they imagined:

The Curvelle 33X9 has a flexible layout with accommodation for 12 guests, the layout can be altered in more than 20 different combinations. It has six double guest cabins or three suites, or sets of double bed or single bed combinations on the main deck.  All of the choices are up to the owner who can decide what is the best solution for his next cruise.

There  is also an accommodation for six crew members in three double cabins in the hull decks with a laundry room  and crew-mess on the separate hull deck.

Curvelle 33X9 - Sundeck

The hull of the Curvelle 33X9 catamaran is constructed of aluminium and the Cheoy Lee built superstructure is made of fiberglass composite.  Naval Architecture was designed by Incat Crowther with the exterior styling by Luc Vernet.  The impeccable interior design was given into the hands of the well know designer Alex Isaac of Lila-Lou in London.

The Curvelle 33X9 catamaran is powered by 2 Caterpillar C32 engines reaching the maximum speed of 25 knots, cruising speed of 10 knots with a range of 3000 nm.

This new wonderful catamaran Curvelle 33X9 has four decks and a nine metre beam. This means it has one extra deck and two metres more beam than a comparable monohull, resulting in 50% more external and internal space for guest than a traditional 33m and comparable with a 40m – 42m performance monohull.

Thanks to the clever design and logistics, the Curvelle 33X9 catamaran has a cost slashed by half, without any compromise on quality and safety.

CharterWorld would be more than happy to provide you with any information required, or simply contact us if you are interested in chartering a catamaran for the upcoming season.

May 09, 2010

Every September, shipyards, brokers, equipment and service providers, high profile private and professional visitors from all around the world make the Monaco Yacht Show a true barometer for the yachting industry and its related activities.

Can the show’s momentum generated by 100 breathtaking yachts gathered in Port Hercules, 500 exhibitors in luxurious pavilions, and 27,000 attendees actually influence the economic situation of a whole sector of activity? These four memorable days at the end of the summer create a unique platform for one‐on‐one conversations, networking with existing and potential clients, and productive B2B meetings, which all contribute to generating interesting leads and valuable discussions that can convert into short or medium term business. It is then a most welcome stimulus to the yachting industry, helping it maintain an optimistic outlook.

With the help of a dedicated team of professionals, a loyal customer base, the majestic setting that the Principality of Monaco represents and the ongoing support of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Monaco Yacht Show continues to be the market leader, year after year, fulfilling the expectations of its clients.

The 20th edition of the Monaco Yacht Show sold out months ago. This is indeed great news, allowing all participants to confidently prepare themselves, whether for the launch of a new yacht, the unveiling of new products and services, the organization of social events, the consistent media plans around their presence in Monaco, or making the final arrangements for their trip to Monte Carlo.

Mr Luc Pettavino, Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show, H.S.H. Albert II Prince of Monaco

After 18 years of loyal service to this event, I have come to the decision that it is now time for me to step aside. After giving this a great deal of thought, and discussing it at length with my family, I am determined to dedicate more time to my various non‐profit initiatives, mainly related to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

I thank you all for this unique experience. It has been a real privilege and honour to build this event into the world premier yacht show that it has become. It was also a great responsibility, as it is associated with very high expectations. Needless to say, I was never alone in this endeavour. The gifted team of people that make it all happen and share the values; research of excellence, consistent commitment, availability, corporate social responsibility, creativity, etc. remains in place: Gaëlle Tallarida who takes over as Managing Director, assisted by Audrey Baylac, Eva Esteban, Aurelia Ferraris, Federica Ficarra, Eva Munoz, Oriane Odasso, Johan Pizzardini and all our loyal suppliers.

You know them, they know you.

Informa owns the Monaco Yacht Show together with 8,000 other events and employs 8,000 people worldwide. As a flagship event of this group, the MYS team works closely with Peter Rigby, CEO of Informa.

Again, let me simply THANK YOU and wish you ALL THE BEST!

Luc Pettavino

«Success is not measured by where you have arrived, but by how many people you have brought with you»

(Will Rose)

Some of you may know of my dedication to help research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy through the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies. The exciting and promising times of therapeutic trials have arrived. The cure is not ready yet, but my energy, my attention, my focus are more than ever required to source funds, gather and finance Scientists, Researchers,

Clinicians, Chemists, etc. Through the support of HSH Prince Albert II, the Monaco Yacht Show and the organization of Only Watch we have been able to raise 2 million Euros every two years. We will continue to do so in the future together with Informa and the MYS Team who will donate 50% of the entrance fees and co‐organize the 4th Only Watch auction which will be held onwhich will be held on 22nd September 2011.

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show

The 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show being staged later this month in Australia has seen an increase in exhibitor numbers with keen anticipation by the marine sector of a successful business event.

2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is Australasia’s most significant marine lifestyle event held at Sanctuary Cove, Queensland.

The 22nd annual Show is staged at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast from Thursday, May 20 to Sunday, May 23.

Recognised as a leading marine event in the Asia Pacific region, the Show has drawn 414 exhibitors, close to 100 marine product launches and slightly up on the 2009 figure of 406.

“We are delighted to receive international attention with international exhibitors or buyers coming from United States, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkey and Italy to name a few countries,” said Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show general manager Barry Jenkins.

“In April I attended the China International Boat Show as part of our year-long international marketing and received the strongest level of inquiry in around a decade of marketing the Show in China,” said Mr Jenkins.

There are 98 world and Australian marine product releases at this stage with close to 200 boats on water at the marina, 7000sqm of pavilion space fully booked and a further 7590sqm of hardstand display space.

“We believe the marine industry is approaching the show with a positive outlook with many manufacturers planning new releases to capture buyers during the Show,” said Mr Jenkins.  “Pavilion and hard stand exhibition areas received particularly strong bookings.”

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show traditionally attracts around 50,000 visitors to the four-day event. Displays across the site are valued at millions of dollars. A survey of the 2008 Show found the event generated more than $A310 million to the Gold Coast economy.

As in past years, there is an International Business Lounge to assist international buyers. This year, initiatives include Australia’s first sea trial area at a boat show and a dedicated Prestige Brokerage and Charter display.

A wide array of boats and marine products are displayed with multi million dollar vessels from international brands such as Princess, Sunseeker, Fairline, Fleming Yachts and power vessels from leading Australian companies such as Maritimo, Riviera and Assegai Marine.

There are world launches of sail boats, trailerable vessels, smaller power boats and a range of marine accessories and marine business services.

The breakfast is held on Friday, May 21.

In other news, Chris Murray will start his appointment as Sanctuary Cove General Manager Events and Marina a week out from the event.

Mr Murray, who has formerly held roles with the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd and PDL Electrical Solutions, will take the opportunity to see first-hand the operation of the event.

A long time boat owner, Mr Murray raced sailing dinghies in his teens then owned a range of pleasure and fishing boats. He has competed in marlin and offshore sportsfishing tournaments, navigational log events and has delivered yachts to various ports.

Ticket sales for the Show are available online. Online tickets offer a small discount to gate ticket entry. One-day online general admission costs $A22 with concession online tickets at $A19. Children aged 14 years and under are free.

During the Show, there is no public parking on site however streamlined transport options include Park ‘n’ Ride, water taxi and ferry transfer, helicopter transfer and limousine and taxi drop off.

Azimut-Benetti Yachts sees 20 per cent gain in new luxury yacht sales

May 06, 2010

Azimut 95 Luxury Yacht

“We are witnessing a reversal in trends and, although we must necessarily be cautious, we are optimistic that the worst is over for Azimut-Benetti,” said Paolo Vitelli, chairman, in the statement.

The Azimut-Benetti Group is reporting a 20 per cent gain in year-over-year sales since January 1, 2010. The Italian conglomerate said in a statement that production has resumed “at full capacity” at its manufacturing facilities.

As of March 30, 2010, the Group had orders that would meet about 90 per cent of its fiscal year budget. The number of orders is about 50 per cent higher than this time last year. “This translates into approximately 250 yachts sold, as against just over 150 in the same period last year,” said Vitelli.

The Azimut-Benetti Group weathered the recession by using a multifold strategy, according to the statement. It increased efficiency by focusing production at its own sites. A government “wages guarantee fund” allowed Azimut-Bentti to train and requalify employees in-house rather than rely on third-party sources. Vitelli said his brands also invested more than €50m in new product development to bring more than 30 new models to market in the next three years. About half of those yachts will be over 100 feet.

The Group has more than €300m in equity, according to the statement. Its “seasonal negative cash flow” is currently €100m, compared to €220m for the same period a year ago.

The company expects their luxury yacht sales and profits to increase over the next months as the sales season proceeds.

If you are interested in chartering an Azimut or Benetti motor yacht talk to CharterWorld, the luxury yacht charter specialists.

Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show applications flood in

April 29, 2010

Sunnseeker at the London International Boat Show

The Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show applications are flooding in ahead of the deadline.

The 2011 Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show is gaining momentum as applications for space flood in ahead of Friday’s (30 April) deadline.  With applications in from key exhibitors from across the industry demand for the show is very strong.

The launch of the new Phase II extension at the Eastern End of ExCeL has opened up a world of opportunity for the London show and NBS has taken this chance to develop and enhance the event to ensure it provides the best experience for visitors and the best possible sales platform for the industry.

Quotes from just a selection of those exhibitors who have already applied:

Tim Hart of E P Barrus said: “The developments are just what the show and we exhibitors need. Some may have considered not attending in future, but having seen the NBS presentation and what they are going to do with the show, we have applied – anyone would be crazy not to go back in 2011.”

Simon Clare, Princess Yachts International added: “The development plans presented to us by NBS have the wow factor which they acknowledge needs to come back to the show – it has certainly excited us and we look forward to playing an even bigger part in the 2011 show.”

The plans are also exciting current exhibitors to do more at the Show.

Paul Heyes, Key Yachting: “We took three boats to the 2010 show on the boardwalk and were pleased with the outcome.  But having now seen the plans and developments we are very excited and have applied for almost double the space.  The changes are exactly what the show needs and Key Yachting would like to play a big part in the show’s future.”

NBS is working to encourage exhibitors to take advantage of free space in order to entertain and engage with Show visitors. Jean-Francois Lair of Chantiers Beneteau, said: “We really like the ideas and developments that will be a big part of the 2011 show. The opportunity for exhibitors to take up to 20sqm at no charge in return for delivering a visitor feature on their stand is one that we are planning to get involved with by delivering a great educational and fun experience for visitors.”

As well as cementing the decision to attend for current exhibitors, the plans are also enticing lapsed exhibitors.

Brian May, Managing Director, Berthon Boat Company Ltd: “We are pleased with the developments NBS have put in place for the 2011 show having listened to visitors and exhibitors. This has galvanised Berthon into applying for space at the show, having not exhibited at the London show in 2010 – which was the first London show we missed in some fifty years!”

The Show’s new broad appeal will draw in new audiences, including those seeking to purchase second hand boats. Ian Atkins, Managing Director, Yachtworld.com: “While many consumers attend boat shows to see and possibly purchase new boats, the most common barrier to buying a new boat is to dispense with one’s current boat. Anything we can do to help sell used boats will, in turn, help sell new boats.  As for first time buyers, research indicates that less than 3% of them purchase new boats. Providing an efficient, attractive, and cost effective means of showing and selling used boats will help move the whole market forward. Yachtworld has applied for space again for 2011 and we look forward to being involved.”

The 2011 Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show takes place 7-16 January 2011 at ExCeL, London and is set to feature the most diverse and entertaining set of exhibitors in its established history.

With over 500 exhibitors displaying product from right across the marine industry it is the place to see and talk to people who can really help you get the most out of your passion.

Looking to 2011 the Show will benefit from a new extension that is being built at the venue. This 40% increase in space will mean that the Show has the potential to grow and include even more product areas to create the Ultimate Boat Show.

Dahm International sailing event in Mallorca, Spain

April 23, 2010

It is one of the most popular and traditional sailing events on the calendar – and the only one sponsored by a yacht broker: The annual rally of super yacht owners at dahm international’s Club Yachting Life.

Following the event’s spontaneous resurrection last year, the team at dahm international is excited to invite owners of 24 metre-plus sailing yachts again to join together for a friendly rally. Over the course of four days – from the 21st until the 24th of May 2010 (Pentecost) – an exclusive assembly of enthusiastic yacht owners and their crews will meet together to indulge in their favourite hobby.

This year it will be “Cast off!” to Palma de Mallorca, Balearics. Each day will be coloured by its unique leg – with perhaps the one or the other yacht challenging the others to a bit of competition!

The enchanting Balearic Islands will set the stage for beautiful sunsets, live music, luxurious pampering and plenty of good-natured fellowship.

The Dahm International Crew

For this year’s Club Yachting Life sailing rally there are only a few slots still available. Interested superyacht owners should contact dahm international directly for registration materials and further information about this event and its extensive social programme.

Background on Club Yachting Life: Herbert Dahm founded the club in 1987 with the idea of promoting contact among owners and yachting enthusiasts in order to encourage the exchange of ideas and to enrich community life in sailing sports. A first regatta of the Club Yachting Life, in June 1988 from Palma to Cabrera, was followed by competitions out of, among others, Monte Carlo, Porto Cervo, Corsica, Menorca and St. Tropez, always accompanied by a well-developed social programme. Indeed, said programme often enough inspired its own resounding echoes among yacht owners. In 2009, the sailing event, with eleven participating superyachts, was brought back to life as a sailing rally after the Jongert-Regatta’s unexpected cancellation.

This year’s Club Yachting Life event is being held with the cooperation and friendly support of Oyster Marine, Southampton Yacht Services, Pantaenius, Palmawatch and Beilken Sails.

Antibes Yacht Show in France

April 19, 2010

The Antibes Yacht Show in France has successfully concluded and there were almost 11 000 visitors who attended the 4th Antibes Yacht Show from April 8th through until the 11th.

The Antibes Yacht Show

The Show marks a second wind in the yachting industry; the economy seems to be getting back on track after the crisis.

Buyers could choose from 150 yachts and almost 180 exhibitors had their products on display.

The yacht brokers exhibited yachts up to 55 meters, some for sale and some for charter. The Sailing Yacht Elena (55 meters) and the M/Y Shandor (50 meters) caught many eyes.

Antibes Yacht Show harboured a wide variety of what’s on the market; for sale or charter, impossible not to find what you’re looking for!

Exhibitors were just as diverse, the usual professionals were present. Yachting and luxurious products were mixed harmoniously together: linen, equipments, services, insurances, media, crew agencies…

Whether they were new or established businesses, the exhibitors were satisfied with the business they did during the show.

The results of the show are very positive and an impressive number of offers were made on the bigger yachts. Visitors and exhibitors were very satisfied to be part of the event that starts the season.

Mercedes were pleased as they sold a car on their second day of the show.

The new Captains’ Lounge version was also a hit. Captains have enjoyed being pampered.

As far as the evenings went, they too received many compliments. The Crew BBQ went on smoothly and welcomed about 300 crew members.

The Gala dinner at the Belles Rives hotel went on mostly on the terrace, which offered a magical view of the Juan Les Pins Bay.

Finally the Exhibitors’ Cocktail was the time for all to meet each other again. A networking but relaxed evening that marks the time to examine the past three days.

The show was a great success for the organisers who were pleased to see that the show is growing and that many brokers took the opportunity to exhibit before the season starts.
