Kannad Marine’s Most Innovative Distributor of the Year Award for Ocean Safety

November 25, 2011

Britain’s largest independent marine safety equipment supplier, Ocean Safety, has received a prominent award from Kannad Marine for the Most Innovative Distributor of the Year 2011. The Award was introduced at the Kannad Marine distributor conference during METS. Ocean Safety was one of only three distributors to be awarded.

Ross Wilkinson of Kannad Marine, said “It was with great pleasure that we presented an award to Ocean Safety in recognition of their outstanding performance in promoting the Kannad Marine range of products, in particularly the Safelink R10 Survival Recovery System (SRS), and driving sales in what has been a challenging  year for everyone in the industry.”

Mark Hart of Ocean Safety said, “Naturally we are very pleased with our recognition from Kannad Marine for the great partnership that we have developed with them. The key to our success is the innovative R10 – a great product at the right market price. Developing ‘R10-Ready’ product lines (the R10 can be fitted to Ocean Safety’s life-jackets, the new MK5 Jonbuoy and liferafts) has boosted the market acceptance and resulted in this well deserved award for our team. This is our second award from Kannad Marine at METS – we won the New Distributor of the Year Award last year.”

The SafeLink R10 SRS also received a Special Mention at the DAME Awards at METS.

Neptune award for Hoek Design’s 43m Lionheart Superyacht by Claasen Jachtbouw

November 25, 2011

The ´Best Interior Layout´ Neptune award has been received by the Dutch studio Hoek Design for the 43m sailing yacht Lionheart during the ShowBoats Design Awards. Lionheart superyacht was admired for her marvelous interpretation of a J-Class sailing yacht interior.

The Neptune judges had many reasons for awarding the luxury yacht Lionheart´s interior layout. One of them was a brilliant conversion of traditionally small deckhouses into comfortable lounging and observation spaces. Taking the lower deck salon and dining area into account, the interior provides three distinct social spaces in a relatively small volume.

Highly-appreciated was the way the aft deckhouse provides an on-deck extension to the master suite while offering double entrance to this area. It means there is no need for the owner to walk some distance forward and then aft to enter his suite.

Moreover, within the confines of a well-known narrow J-Class hull, the Hoek Design created two agreeable and basically equally sized twin guest staterooms in addition to the master and a smaller bunk guest cabin.

The crew layout of the super yacht Lionheart was also appreciated for the way it provides comfortable accommodations in a compact area.

Other highly-praised Hoek Design yachts were the 180ft sailing yacht Marie, one of the nominees for best interior, exterior design and styling, as well as naval architecture at the ShowBoats Design Awards. She was also nominated as one of the five best sailing yachts launched in 2010/2011 over 40m in the International Super Yacht Design Awards, together with the 35m luxury yacht Firefly, in the category between 24 and 40m.

2011 Nautica Outstanding Seamanship Award

November 24, 2011

This year’s 80th Anniversary J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, presented and led by the Island Sailing Club (ISC) in Cowes, Isle of Wight, was the largest ever to be staged with 1,908 yachts present. It was introduced in very difficult weather conditions that lead to a particularly high number of incidents on the water and the highest level of nominations ever for the Nautica Outstanding Seamanship Award, now in its 4th year.

The Nautica Outstanding Seamanship Award recognises acts of good seamanship on Race day and is open to all those involved, whether competitors, spectators, members of the emergency services or race officers.

Among the many worthy nominations following the June 25th Race, were two extraordinarily strong nominations for skippers coming to the rescue of two separate ‘Man Overboard’ (MOB) incidents, both in big seas.

The joint winners of the Nautica Outstanding Seamanship Award for 2011 and each also receiving a handsome Nautica watch, are Michael Hook, skipper on the Britannia Events chartered Flying Fish, GBR 9043T, for rescuing a man overboard from a Laser SB3, and Paul Harris, owner and skipper of Tan-It, a Sydney 36, for rescuing a man overboard from Jings!, a J133.

The Award’s judging panel comprising Gavin Crilly-McKean (Nautica Watches), Dave Atkinson (ISC Race Management) and Simon Boulding (Britannia Corporate Events) stated that the winners were selected because, “successful MOB recoveries in such unforgiving circumstances have to be exercised with a great deal of skill and without a moment’s hesitation or regard for the rescuer’s race results.”

CMC Marine receives DAME 2011 Award for Stabilis Electra 18BR-2X

November 16, 2011

At the Breakfast Briefing before the opening of METS inc. the SuperYacht Pavilion on November 15th CMC Marine has got the final certification of its outstanding innovation capacity: the Stabilis Electra, model 18BR-2X, has been awarded with the most prestigious prize given in the marine industry  the DAME 2011 Award.

CMC Marine Dame Ceremony Award

CMC Marine Dame Ceremony Award

CMC Marine was the Category Winner in the Machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings category. The DAME Jury inspected 133 entries from 21 countries and then nominated 43 products to advance to the second round of judging. Only products that make it to the second round were considered for the DAME Award. In determining the winners in eight categories, as well as the Overall Winner, the Jury took into account a number of factors, including design, styling, quality of construction, overall impact on the marine industry, suitability for its intended purpose, level of innovation, cost effectiveness, and favourable environmental impact.

CMC Marine's Stabilis Electra actuator BR18

CMC Marine's Stabilis Electra actuator BR18

The Stabilis Electra 18BR-2X was awarded with the following motivation:

The Stabilis Electra 18BR-2x is a development of a previous model which has now achieved improved performance, through the use of a new electrical actuator and electronic regulator. This has resulted in reduced power consumption of up to 50%. The jury felt that this new version of the Stabilis Electra 18BR-2x will have a major impact in making fin stabilization a desirable and viable option for both builders and owners.

The Stabilis Electra range of electrical stabilizer is composed by four models for boats from 20 to 60m and more. The verified  benefits of the electrical stabilizer fins are resumable in:

Higher efficiency

50% less electrical power consumption

More electrical power available for other onboard users

Compact unit dimension

Easier installation

Cables no pipes

Reduced fin size

Low drag effects

More advanced electronic regulator

More comfort even at anchor mode

Drastic noise reduction

Maintenance reduced to a minimum

Longer components lifetime

The Dame is probably the most important award to be given yearly to the most innovative product for the yachting industry designed and built all over the world. Yearly, there are more than a hundred of products which try to be admitted but only a few are nominated and only the best are given the prize, as CMC Marine is demonstrating to be getting another great acknowledgement for the innovation capacity at CMC Marine.
