One can easily imagine the bases of the Ribbon design if you know that the founders of Ribbon Yachts exists of an enthusiastic private aviator and a design perfectionist. Ornaments and decorations are therefore totally foreign to the Ribbon. On the drawing table Vripack has transformed the modern thoughts of the founders into the Ribbon 45 SCyacht: a ship inspired by modern aeronautics and the most agile airplanes in the world.

Varadero Valencia completes refit of Vitters sailing yacht MARIPOSA 3a and Jongert Ketch Baltic Dreams

July 27, 2011

Launched in 2005 and drawing on the vast experience of their sister shipyard Varadero Palma, by 2008 Varadero Valencia had already become a benchmark Mediterranean refit and repair yard for superyachts.

Top tier facilities and an expert team, quality customer service as well as proximity to the Balearic Islands make Varadero Valencia a prestigious superyacht refit yard. 2011 has been a busy year for the superyacht repair yard and they have completed works on several superyachts including Vitters sailing yacht MARIPOSA 3a and the classic Jongert Ketch Baltic Dreams.

Mariposa 3a’s hull was built in aluminum and required a repaint of the hull which Varadero Valencia completed with Awlgrip paint. The cabin and cockpit were painted in white, and the hull in a dark navy blue.

The paint work was done in a custom yacht cover built by Varadero Valencia yacht covers division. A full check of the MTU engines and the Kolher generator was also carried out.

S/Y MARIPOSA 3a is a unique classic designed yacht in a style reminiscent of the great racing yachts and the romance of the 1920′s and 1930′s.  Her beautiful lines, the classic sheer and deck house profile, are married to a modern hull shape and highly developed keel design, which create a fast and seaworthy vessel, capable of world-wide cruising in any weather.

Another sailing yacht refitted by the Valencia shipyard was the Jongert sailing yacht Baltic Dreams. The Owner of the ketch wanted to paint the hull and the super-structure, mast and booms as well as review and change the rigging.

The first step was to take out the main mast and mizzen mast with a specialist rigger and with a crane. Once the two masts and booms were laid at ground level, the riggers dismounted all the pieces at the same time Varadero Valencia´s team were building a tent which measured  40 meters to cover the mast and booms. The Baltic Dreams yacht was placed on a cradle on the hard and another tent was built to cover her during her paint which as also done with Awlgrip paint.

Acronautic and Dariel Yachts launch Dariel DT13 – A luxury 13m superyacht RIB

July 21, 2011

Acronautic and Dariel Yachts have launched a luxury 13m superyacht RIB called Dariel DT13 on the lakes of Lago d’Iseo in Italy. The 13m superyacht RIB is a luxury day boat that is a divergence from the typical superyacht tenders, focusing more on providing a safe, practical, fast and super luxurious day boat.

Acronautic and Dariel Yachts launch Dariel DT13 – A luxury 13m superyacht RIB

The collaboration between Acronautic and Dariel Yachts has produced a superyacht tender that features a large comfortable U shaped seating arrangement in the aft, where passengers can relax whilst in transit with ample protection from the elements provided from the overhead sports top and the large inflatable tubes which deflect any attempted ingress of sea spray.

A harmonious balance of luxury and practicality is achieved with features such as strategically positioned grab rails bound in leather and carefully flared wind deflectors moulded into the forward console to reduce airflow to the passengers.

The Dariel DT13 motor yacht boasts twin 350 hp Mercury Verado racing engine producing over 260kw power, propelling the boat to in excess of 50 knots. This particular vessel is fitted with an 1140 litre fuel tank providing a range of nearly 300nm at an impressive cruise speed of 30 knots. Sea keeping ability is the true measure of any vessel and this Dariel DT13 yacht is based on the proven Dariel dTender hull which offers a stable, dry and comfortable ride, often referred to as the Porshe of the sea due to its performance and handling characteristics.

This vessel has been designed and built for a repeat customer and during the negotiations process, Acronautic specified many additional options to improve the passenger comfort onboard, features such as a Nespresso coffee machine, built in dive compressor, refrigeration, advanced LED lighting and DVD surround sound system provide the small touches that are required to raise the bar on each new vessel. Every centimetre of space has been carefully considered, provision for shoe storage, sunscreen compartments and mobile phone dry storage are all positioned in logical and easy to access locations.

ACRONAUTIC was formed in 2007 as an International Business Company specializing in Marine Project Management, recruitment, professional maritime consultancy and product sales of marine goods including custom luxury tenders and recreational products. The common goal shared throughout the organisation is the development and promotion of the marine industry in general through its people and dealings with likeminded businesses.

The ability to be truly international requires a global presence which Acronautic achieves with bases in Monaco, Phuket (Thailand) and Perth (Australia).

Ribbon 45SC by Vripack Design Studio

July 20, 2011

Vripack Design Studio has recently created a RIB for Dutch yacht builder Ribbon Yachts called the Ribbon 45 SC.  Ribbon Yachts gave the design brief to the Vripack Design Studio to create a Rib without having it look like a typical Rib plus she has to be an ultimate ‘man boat’. That is exactly what they have done with the Ribbon 45 SC, a 13-metre minimalistic RIB with a sporty edge.

Inspired by modern aeronautics and the fastest and most agile airplanes in the world, the Ribbon 45 SC features sharp edges, short round corners leading to precise lines and clean surfaces. Not surprising as the founder of Ribbon Yachts is an enthusiastic and successful aviator. Vripack have omitted ornaments and kept decorations to a minimum, maintaining a minimal and clean look throughout.

The Ribbon 45 SC motor yacht has a fully equipped helm and navigation cockpit which is located in the middle of the yacht. The helm station is fitted out with three Recaro sport bucket seats that provide exceptionally firm support around the hip and shoulder areas. A huge windscreen wraps around the entire area providing complete and safe shelter so guests can safely relax or even sun-bathe during navigating. The cabin provides unparalleled leg room, huge overhead lockers and a private toilet and shower area.

Honda RIB to circumnavigate Australia for prostate cancer awareness campaign

July 19, 2011

The Honda-powered rigid inflatable boat (RIB) measuring 8.6m will be home for two brothers as they spend 10 weeks going ‘over the top’ to raise funds and awareness of prostate cancer by circumnavigating the Australian Coast.

After extensive sea trialling off the West Australian coast, the custom 8.6m Gemini Pro RIB has been refined to a point where both men are confident they will succeed in their Australian-first attempt to travel more than 9500km around Australia’s Coastline in a ‘rubber ducky’.

Honda Over The Top Expedition leader Peter Jenkins said he was looking forward to the event launch in just under two weeks’ time.

“The boat has really been put through its paces in wild seas out to Rottnest Island, calm conditions on the Swan River and everything in between,” Mr Jenkins said.

“Although the boat proved itself to handle rough conditions with ease, maintaining a speed of 23kt in some very poor weather, we’ve had a taste of just how exhausting the expedition will be… it certainly won’t be a holiday!

“All onboard systems are working perfectly and the boat is propped to deliver maximum performance and efficiency.

“With the twin Honda BF225 engines linked in to the Furuno electronics we’re able to accurately monitor our fuel consumption, which is less than two litres per nautical mile at speeds in excess of 23kt… very impressive.”

Leaving from the Sydney International Boat Show on 1 August and finishing nearly two months later in Perth, the Honda Over The Top Expedition has a number of planned stopovers at locations along the east coast and right across the top.

The Expedition aims to raise $200,000 for Cancer Council Australia for research into effective prostate cancer detection and treatment.
