December 21, 2010

The Monaco Yacht Show marked the end of a successful summer season for J Craft as the team retailed a standard Torpedo model within the first 24-hours of the glamorous four-day event. However, the autumn weather has done little to dampen customer enthusiasm for the brand and since Monaco, J Craft has retailed a further three boats; 2 standard Torpedo’s and 1 Torpedo R.

A number of forward orders for 2011 boats have also been taken.

The J Craft Torpedo was officially launched at the 2009 Monaco Yacht Show and it was followed a year later by the Torpedo R, offering higher specification and increased power. Both models have proved popular, finding buyers in the Middle East and throughout the Mediterranean. In 2011, J Craft will enter the North American market and will exhibiting at the Miami Boat Show in February.

Speaking about the brands growing reputation, J Craft’s Johan Attvik said, “The Torpedo is an incredibly stylish and luxurious product that delivers on every promise. It is a perfect combination of effortless glamour and cutting edge technology and it is as robust and reliable as it is beautiful and cosseting. As we retail more boats, so we have more brand ambassadors and our reputation grows again.”

On the sales outlook for 2011, Attvik continues, “We are very excited about the potential of the US market and early signs suggest that the Torpedo will do well there. We are talking to a number of prominent partners and we’re looking forward to putting together an exciting calendar of events for new customers and friends of the brand in North America. Equally, we expect Europe to remain strong and the Middle East market to grow for us in the next 12 months. J Craft production for 2011 is scheduled to be 16 hulls, however we may need to try and ramp this up if demand continues to grow at the current rate.”

The first example, which is absolutely monochromic is inspired by the Blue Klein and was presented at Artcurial auction house last July, 2010. After an unexpected and unprecedented international press campaign Ral5015 has been exhibited during  summer for 1 month at the “Rond point des champs Elysée in Paris”, later in Saint-Tropez and Monaco before being sold in auction on the 20th of July.

John Dodelande

John Dodelande

22 years old

In 2005, John Dodelande named the youngest entrepreneur in France by Renaud Dutreuil, Economic & Finance French Government Minister.

At 17, John Dodelande launched his own fashion brand which gave him an unusual and high level media coverage.

At 20, he managed the marketing & communication budget of a European shipyard.

Interview with John Dodelande

-When and why I created this unique project?

”I created this project in September 2009, a period rich of a large number of art shows.
Every year during September and October have place 4 great art and yacht shows:

Frieze in London, FIAC in Paris,
Cannes Boat Show and Monaco Yacht Show

. The aim of my project was to find a legitimate link between the nautical and the art world.
The boats are large projects on a technical level, and over the last years some of these has a design avant-gardist contents. Beyond design, the idea is to assign a state-of-the- art boat signed by an International artist in order to let the people have a all-brand new kind of investment.
When you buy a boat you can resell it from 20 to 30% the year later. When you buy an art work at 100 you can resell it normally 150 a year later.

-What is the message of the second boat?

The second boat conceived with Xavier Veilhan was made for an art-collector in Ibiza, Spain. The message of this blue sky is the boat moving stealthily between the blue sky and the sea in Ibiza.

-Is it different from the Ral 5015?

Only the blue tone. We are declining the range of blues of all kinds, is an art experiment.

The world’s first Carbon Neutral speed boat – the Guardian S Class by Sauter Carbon Offset Design

October 18, 2010

A Mercedes Benz Blue-Hybrid Tender that demonstrates to the boating community how it can reduce “Global Warming Pollution” by 280 million metric tons per year.

The Carbon Fibre Guardian S Class is a is 45 knot Solar Hybrid Vessel powered by an EPA car regulated Mercedes Benz Bluetec engine coupled to a Carbon-Grossbauteile electric motor. When combined with other currently available technology her Fuel Consumption and GHG Emissions are 50 to 100% lower than any speed boat ever built.

The Guardian’s Lithium ion UPS provides a Zero Carbon cruising range of up to 50 nautical miles while her plug-in SunPower array generates enough free energy to motor Carbon Neutral for up to 1,000 nautical miles a year.

Richard Sauter head of design comments “Taking advantage of existing advances in Green Technology, the Guardian S Class leads the way in attacking one of the major causes of global warming and in doing so lays the foundation for the only marketing force likely to revitalize the boating industry in the face of ever increasing fuel prices ”.

While many look to revitalizing inland waterways, doing so without regulating the inevitable increase in pollution that will come as a result, will not benefit the related communities. By employing catalytic dry exhaust systems, Solar Hybrid power boats like the Guardian S Class are actively protecting rather than contaminating marine bio-systems.

The EPA estimates that registered recreational boats in the USA alone produce a staggering 375 million metric tons of Co2 per year. Carbon Neutral power boats that follow the Guardian’s example can reduce that figure, by on average 75%, thereby reducing “global warming pollution” by 280 million metric tons per year.

It will be interesting to see what green superyachts of the future will have a Carbon Fibre Guardian S Class tender as part of their water sport toys and amenities available for personal use and charter guests.

Currently available technology present in the Guardian S Class Tender

Danish Yachts’ new concepts at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show

October 12, 2010

Danish Yachts were proud to introduced their new and revolutionary concepts, such as the AeroCruiser 38F III motor yacht, the AeroSpeed 18 Yacht Tender and the QuadraDeck Yacht Series at this year’s MYS. With a strong ethos in the traditions of superyacht build, Danish Yachts is again pioneering into new design areas for modern carbon fibre construction. Intense attention to detail at every stage of each new yacht’s build, from initial construction through to working on board systems, ensures that every vessel that leaves the shipyard in Skagen will provide minimal negative impact on the environment during the build process and more importantly, throughout its life.

Danish Yachts

Danish Yachts has invested an immense amount of research and development into new areas of green technology across their range of superyachts and was proud to announce these new concepts at the 2010 Monaco Yacht Show.

Danish Yachts AeroCruiser 38F III motor yacht

Pioneering Light and Green Technologies

From the drawing board of Espen Øino comes the new flybridge version of the innovative fast range of superyachts – Danish Yachts’ AeroCruiser. The AeroCruiser 38F III motor yacht will have the classic hallmark of Danish Yachts’ superb finish, at the same time giving an open feel to the interior with the use of full height glass. This will provide more light to this spacious interior area and a seamless transition between inside and out. Within the design, there is provision for a forward facing glass hatch, which doubles as a sun awning when fully open and allows an airy walk-through from stem to stern.

Danish Yachts Motor Yacht

Further technical eco developments will be incorporated into this new AeroCruiser 38F III Yacht, to provide fuel-efficient engines, water system and air-conditioning. A prospective owner can stipulate his choice in terms of speed versus fuel economy.

Currently finishing in the shipyard is the Espen Øino 38 metre 50 knot superyacht AeroCruiser 38 II, Project 116. She is now undergoing shore based systems testing and is due for launch for her initial sea trials off Skagen, very soon. Thrilling times for the specialist teams at the shipyard, watching their labours come together in this brilliant new concept, pioneering light and green technologies.

Danish Yachts QuadraDeck Yacht Series

The QuadraDeck Yacht Series: Exploring Space Technology

The QuadraDeck Yacht Series from the design office of Cor D Rover, is quite simply more efficient use of space, with the addition of a closed upper-deck to a conventional three deck design. This provides further space normally found on much larger yachts – a 38 metre QuadraDeck MotorYacht offers equivalent interior space to a conventional 42 metre. Each QuadraDeck yacht in the series can be customised to an owner’s individual tastes in terms of interior layout.

A unique feature offered in the QuadraDeck Motor Yacht series, is the patented ‘Sky Terrace’ developed by Cor Rover. At the flick of a switch, the top deck area can be enlarged by up to 40 percent in terms of deck space. When the yacht is moored, the enclosed sides of the upper deck fold down providing teak covered balconies on both the port and starboard sides giving an unobstructed panoramic view.

Danish Yachts AeroSpeed 18 Yacht Tender

Introducing the Supercar of the Seas

Inspired by the performance and luxury of modern supercars, the AeroSpeed 18 tender incorporates the unrivalled quality craftsmanship from the Danish Yachts’ specialists, with high-speed performance and manoeuvrability. The high speed vessel is designed to be either a tender to a superyacht or a stand-alone modern superboat and can be fully customised in terms of engine drive for fuel efficiency or for a top speed of around 60 knots. The design incorporates the latest cutting-edge construction techniques and high-performance powertrains, again with the Danish Yachts’ hallmark of superyacht quality accommodation and a magnificent crafted finish.
