Nautor´s Swan exhibited at the 2012 Hainan Rendez-Vous

Only in its third edition, the Hainan Rendez-Vous, including a yacht show, business jet exhibition as well as lifestyle showcase, has bought thousands of China’s top earners to Sanya’s fabulous shores. This event has attracted more yachts than any other show in Asia, and Nautor’s Swan was delighted to be present at the Show for the first time.

This unique luxury event is touted as the key networking platform for China’s business leaders and international counterparts. As such, Hainan provided Nautor’s Swan the perfect opportunity to meet Chinese business leaders.

China (Shanghai) Boat Show 2012: Asian Marine & Boating Awards public voting

In a new move to permit the boating public to experience a better level of ownership the Asian Marine & Boating Awards are placing the nominees for 3 categories on the China (Shanghai) Boat Show website to permit the public to vote for their preferred nominee.

Although this does open up the door for misuse, voting patterns will be monitored to ensure that the awards are not ‘bought’ as they can sometimes be in other instances. Even the US Movie Oscars were accused of such impropriety over recent years with the most lavish party resulting in a statuette.

This move is part of the ongoing development process of keeping, not just the Awards themselves, but also Asia’s largest boat show fresh, modern and relevant in the rapidly developing Chinese boating market.

In a statement Judges Coordinator Alistair Skinner said, “We will not go as far as some awards in allowing public nominations. That only runs the risk of every builder getting friends to nominate their own boat meaning a snowfall of nominees making the judges’ task impossible. The judges we have involved know what is good, ordinary and downright terrible in the marine industry and as such we have to trust their judgment as professionals.”

The three categories that are to be posted to the Show´s website for public voting are Asian Boating Capital of the year; Asian Regatta of the Year and Asian Yacht Club of the Year.

It will be interesting to see how closely (or otherwise) the public perception of these events, cities and clubs relates to those of the panel of judges. Having said that, the nominees all have their own merits in the eyes of the judges and any one would be a worthy winner.

The votes will be correlated and the results kept under wraps, just like all the other categories, until the actual award ceremony itself held during the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show that runs from the 19th to 22nd April 2012.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) has prepared the Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai Boat Show 19-22 April 2012. A plenty of Australian companies are now present at this show to strengthen their position and continue to build relationships which is critical in this market.

Australian companies attending and exhibiting include; Aqualuma Marine Lighting, ASEA Yacht Design, Austral & VEEM Propellers, Bellingham Marine, Coursemaster Autopilots, Hydrive Engineering, Marine Tech Industries Australia, Muir Winches, Pyrotek Noise Control, Sailfish, SCY Design, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Superior Jetties.

All are now established players in this market and continue to see the opportunities a market as large as China offers although it is still in its infancy. Australian companies however who are prepared to put the time into profiling their brand and technology will reap the rewards in the future.

“In 2011 initial expectations were low given the economic situation, however at the conclusion of the show all exhibitors were surprised and pleased to record either direct sales or potential sales coming from the first few days alone.  The stream of visitors to this show in the past has been overwhelming but consisted of very few real buyers yet 2011 was the first time the numbers were down but real buyers had increased,” said AIMEX CEO MaryAnne Edwards.

One of the critical issues in this market is ensuring leads are well qualified to prevent time wasting and ensure targeted follow up. It can be difficult doing business in this market due to language and cultural barriers but having a presence from Austrade and with strong State representation on the ground in China has been valuable for Australian companies.

Edwards further stated that “There is no doubt that this market can only grow for marine industry manufacturers. Those that are in the market now building relationships will be the ones that reap the benefits of the huge opportunities that will flow in the future. The Chinese government is placing more emphasis on developing a leisure marine industry and with a population the size of China and the developing affluence of the people it will become a strong market for Australian exporters.”

11th Venice International Boat Show/NauticShow, April 13-15 and April 20-22, 2012

The Venice International Boat Show/NauticShow starts today and will be held over two weekends from April 13-15 as well as April 20-22. The venue is San Giuliano Park, in the mainland of Venice, Italy.

On 120.000 m² of exhibition area and 360 mt. of wharf, there will be 160 exhibitors (+30%), along with 200 yachts (+30%) on display. More than 50.000 visitors are expected.

The Venice International Boat Show/NauticShow is result of the union of the two main boat show of the Italian Adriatic Sea: the Venice International Boat Show by Expo Venice and the NauticShow by Veneto Exhibitions.

Coordinator of the event is Lorenzo Pollicardo, former UCINA secretary general and international expert of the nautical sector.

The new boat show in Venice will present all range of boats, from kayak to yacht. Focus will be on boats of up to 12m (40ft) in length, which market is successfully facing the economical turbulences.

Saturday 14th, after the opening ceremony, the America’s Cup World Series will be presented, running in Venice from May 15 to 20, 2012.

194 yachts registered for the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2012

The number of exhibitors registered for the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show is 15% higher compared to the same time last year, showing a real increase in interest. The 2012 event will be the first edition to take place at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam.

In addition to a new location, the event will also see a new concept focused on three nautical theme worlds (luxury, recreational and active) in which the participating boats will be exhibited. From Tuesday 4 to Sunday 9 September 2012, over 250 exhibitors from the Netherlands and abroad will showcase their latest designs and nautical products within the framework of an exciting activity programme on and around the water.

Registration 15% higher than last year
It is not only the regular participants that are positive about the new location and course being taken by the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show. The exhibitor list already includes around 30 companies that will be taking part for the first time or returning after a period of absence.

“We now have 147 confirmed exhibitor registrations with 194 boats,” says Farouk Nefzi, director of HISWA Multimedia. “This is 15% more than at the same time last year, which is a great result considering the difficult economic conditions.”

The 194 yachts registered for the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show include 30 Dutch, European or global premieres, such as the following motorboats: the Tenderline G7 (Tenderline), Marex 320 Aft Cabin Cruiser (Marex/De Boarnstream), Sturier 620 (Jachtwerf Volharding), Maremiss 63 (Hofstra Jachtbouw), Mulder 73 Flybridge and 72 Convertible (Mulder Shipyard), Swift Trawler 48 (Bénéteau), Contest 52MC (Contest Yachts), Smalland Tempo (Smalland Maritiem), Jetten 44 Sedan (Jetten Yachting), Vivante 55 HT (Vivante Yachts), Williams Dieseljet 565 (Delta Watersport) and Thomasz Tristan 50 (Thomasz Yachts).

New sailboats include the Sense 46 (Bénéteau), Contest 72CS (Contest Yachts), Oyster 725 (Oyster Marine) and Bavaria Vision 46 (Bavaria). A surefire crowd puller will be the clipper Stad Amsterdam, which will be moored at the outdoor quay during the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show as a hospitality ship for the city council.

The construction of a breakwater by the NDSM wharf is currently underway. It will provide the necessary protection for the new, permanent marina that will be built after the breakwater is completed. Amsterdam Marina will be the new home base of the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show, featuring berths for passing vessels in summer and permanent berths during the rest of the year.

Due for completion in 2013, the permanent facilities on the quay include the HISWA Nautical Centre which will accommodate various businesses such as the HISWA Group. The upcoming edition of the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show will make use of the new marina and temporary facilities created for the event on the quay.

Horizon Group was present at the 2012 Hainan Rendezvous from April 5-8 in Sanya, China with three luxury vessels on display, including the RP120 motor yacht MUSES, the CC110 superyacht Lady Gaga and the E54 yacht. Although the weather was less than ideal, Horizon’s luxury vessels as well as the perfect show location still attracted many visitors and potential clients who came to view the superior craftsmanship of the vessels on display.

The E84 luxury yacht Virginia, which measures 89ft-6in(27.3 meters) in length and 20ft (6.1 meters) in beam, is powered by twin MAN 12V 1550HP engines and has an 18 knot cruising speed with a top speed of 22 knots.
