10th American Superyacht Forum: Speakers revealed

April 11, 2012

Superyacht Events, the company dedicated to hosting the premiere events for the superyacht industry, has announced the first wave of speakers for the American Superyacht Forum (ASF). Speaking across a powerful ten-session programme for the tenth anniversary of ASF, the speakers will provide an extraordinary three-day event.

ASF 2012 (May 21-23), Fort Lauderdale, marks a pivotal year for implementing the necessary steps to revive an ailing American superyacht market. Whilst ASF 2011 was the year of the rallying cry to implement change and set the ball rolling, this year’s ASF will build on such momentum and focus on action.

The first speaker is Wayne Huizenga Jr, from Rybovich marina and refit, who will appear in the all-important opening session, State of the Industry, the scene-setter for the whole three-day forum. Huizenga will be joined by a shortly to be announced panel who together will examine how the industry can tackle the realities and problems of today. The panel will build upon The Superyacht Group’s Chairman, Martin Redmayne’s opening address, which shows the hard facts of the US industry today via data from Superyacht Intelligence.

The industry can only thrive within the parameters and rules set by the authorities and the government. Session three: The Government and the Authorities – Friend or Foe? will be led by four long standing US industry experts to navigate this thorny issue. Together Kristina Hebert from Wards Marine Electric, John Mann at Bluewater, Corey Ranslem fromSecure Waters and Carlos Vidueira at Rybovich will discuss key issues such as tax and pilotage. Government lobbyists from the US Associations will then present their progress, ideas, and future predictions to the audience.

A clutch of high calibre speakers have also been confirmed for day two. Bill Blount from naval architecture and marine engineering specialist Donald L. Blount & Associates will be joining the opening session of the day, America’s Technical Challenges and Opportunities. This session gives members of different industry disciplines the chance to tell delegates what they see their clients asking for and how the American industry can better serve their needs.

Competing for the annual ‘American Superyacht Forum Innovation Award’ in session five are speakers from yacht technology companies Maretron, Megafend, SeaTel and SpecTec.  Each speaker will have just 10 minutes to present their latest technological innovations. The most votes wins, but the SuperyachtEvents team has put an ‘original twist’ on the session to register the delegates’ votes. Expect an intriguing and fun session.

Speakers for session six, The Quality Control Conundrum – Achieving Better Service and Support Focus join a deliberately varied panel. Dean Du Toit from National Marine, Graeme Lord at Fairport Yacht Support and Dean Vaughn, Chief Engineer discuss all sides of the quality control conundrum. They will tackle questions such as ‘What do the buyers need in order to better satisfy their owners?’ And, ‘What do the sellers need inorder to better serve this group?’

Finally, the last wave concludes with Kristina Hebert at Wards Marine Electric, Ken Hickling from the International Superyacht Society, John Mann at Bluewater and Lon McCloskey from Florida Yacht Brokers Association, who will make up the final panel for day two. Together they will update the action plan laid down in 2011 to achieve economic recovery in the US superyacht industry. As well as hearing from the speakers, this session will allow delegates to communicate their ideas, andcontribute to the formulation of a new business model for the US industry.

More speakers and details on the 10 sessions will be announced over the coming days.

On the second day of the conference Jimmy Blee will take to the podium to reflect and share his years of experience in context with the current and the future of the marine industry in Indonesia. He’ll share his passion for “Cruising in Indonesia: The Ying and the Yang” and offer personal insights, kicking off the afternoon session on April 26th.

Detailing his understanding of the vast cruising grounds that make up Indonesia, he’ll share the best way to be able to plan and execute trips which can cover as much of this wonderful country as possible.

A remarkable individual with a wide circle of friends in the yachting world, Jimmy has been a resident of Indonesia since 1994. His early university studies in sociology and politics combined with his deep knowledge of boating in Indonesia should give all an insightful view of how to approach cruising in Indonesia.

Hailing originally from Australia on Queensland’s east coast where he ran charter boats out of the famed Whitsunday islands. The then Captain Jimmy left in 1989 to travel to Thailand with the aim of helping his long time friend, Bill O’Leary, set up Amancruises at the luxury resort of Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand.

This was the start of a path of rich maritime exploration, covering over 30,000 nautical miles, piloting boats through Asian waters. Later, after spending 1200 days of private chartering for the world’s “rich and famous”, he moved to Indonesian waters to assist in establishing a marine operations base on a remote island near Sumbawa in 1994 and oversee Amanresorts marine operations in Indonesia.

A wealth of experience and amazing voyages grew from his adventures. Blee started his own marine logistics company in 1999. Building and then running his luxury traditional wooden charter, “Ikan Gurami”, he operated expedition-style cruises and other long-range charter adventure trips. The many years spent on these trips took Jimmy to the special locations he now shares with others.

Sailing the waterways of Indonesia extensively, particularly the eastern islands whilst operating many of his own charter vessels, Jimmy has led several expedition-style cruises and other long-range adventure trips for the rich and famous to locations covered in and beyond any guidebook. His valuable maritime diversity has awarded him the skills and knowledge needed to run his marine consultancy − Indonesian Marine Services and a boat design, construction division and management agency with Richard Lofthouse, Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia.

In 2009 the company completed construction of the luxury 32m phinisi, Amanikan, for Amanresorts while managing and guiding trips for Superyachts, such as Senses and Helios, in Indonesia. This wealth of experience and knowledge has Jimmy in great demand as a superyacht guide and logistics planner, represented by Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia.

Jimmy is well known in Southeast Asian luxury charter and superyacht circles and is a volunteer contributor to the Indonesian Chapter of the South East Asia Pilot publication as well as a feature story contributor to many of the Asian based marine and yacht magazines. He continues to ply the remote Indonesian archipelago enjoying the friendly lifestyle with his Indonesian wife and three children. Known to many in the yachting world for his considerable talents and depth of knowledge about Indonesia cruising and voyages, Captain Jimmy will share his experiences and projections at the Asia Pacific Superyacht Association Conference in Singapore April 26th.

A member and enthusiastic supporter of the Association of Yacht Support Services (AYSS), Jimmy is a strong proponent of information sharing in the yachting world which in turn, helps everyone.

Next year the exposition will become even larger and will be accommodated on 40 000 sq m. The trade fair will present exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements. It is also planned to extend thematic sections of the show.

Annual growth of exhibition areas of the project demonstrates the intensive development of the yachting branch: the number of exhibitors and relatively the number of represented exhibits increases with each edition of the trade fair.

In spite of the fact that Moscow Boat Show 2012 was over less than a week ago, formation of the next edition exposition in 2013 is under way already. Negotiations not only with new participants but also with companies which are ready to increase scales of their expositions in 2013 are already underway.

5th International exhibition of boats and yachts Moscow Boat Show a Huge Success

April 06, 2012

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.

Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!

Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.

The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.

Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.

The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.

Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.

The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.

April 06, 2012

The largest collection of big yachts west of the Mississippi is coming back to Newport Beach for the biggest in-the-water boat show in the West: the 39th annual Newport Boat Show, April 19-22 at Lido Marina Village.

logo_newport_boat_show_2012

The 39th annual exhibition is California’s premier big boat and yacht show, presenting more boats in the water than any other event in the West. This year, show-goers can step aboard and compare the unique features of more than 200 pleasureboats – including brand-new models making their West Coast debuts and ocean-tested brokerage yachts that come pre-loaded with sought-after amenities – displayed in the water at beautiful Newport Harbor.

The Newport Boat Show offers a rare opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at many head-turning multimillion-dollar yachts, along with a wide selection of 35- to 65-foot pleasurecraft – including sportfishers, long-range trawler yachts, sport yachts, family cruisers, sailboats and motoryachts. In all, the show will feature more than 400,000 square feet of floating dock exhibits and boardwalk displays, plus a huge selection of boating accessories, electronics, gear and services.

The visitors will see larger yachts that come equipped with a wealth of creature comforts and the latest-available high-tech amenities – such as multiple large flat-panel video screens and cutting-edge electronic entertainment systems; gourmet galleys outfitted with granite countertops, gleaming stainless fixtures and high-end appliances; designer-created interiors trimmed in buttery-soft leathers and warm, exotic woods; multiple helm station control panels that rival those on jet aircraft; plus, wireless remote vessel controls, onboard camera systems, auxiliary power generators and worldwide satellite communication systems. And the visitors to the show will find a wide variety of midsize and smaller pleasurecraft equipped for everything from weekend cruising to serious sportfishing and long-range offshore adventures.

This distinctive luxury yachtfisher is equipped with a Seakeeper stabilizer system for maximum cruising comfort and provides an exceptionally quiet ride, regardless of speed.

Offshore Yachts’ flagship 80 Offshore Voyager, also coming to this year’s show, is a “yachtsman’s yacht” with an enclosed wheelhouse, multiple inside and outside entertaining areas, a single-level main deck and a beautiful interior accented by Brazilian cherry wood sole.

Johnson Cockpit Motoryacht

Johnson Cockpit Motoryacht

The 79-foot Johnson Cockpit Motoryacht, appearing at this year’s show, comes loaded with amenities and is ready to cruise – with a large California Deck, four staterooms, crew quarters and a full complement of the latest cruising electronics.

The all-new 31 Ranger Tug will also make its Newport Boat Show debut this year. This single-engine boat with a command bridge offers both surprising fuel economy and enviable power – with a 300 hp D4 Volvo diesel engine that provides a cruising speed of 16-plus knots. The interior layout includes two staterooms and two heads, and the standard equipment includes bow and stern thrusters. Like its popular sisterships (also featured at this year’s Newport Boat Show), the 31 Ranger Tug is totally trailerable.

No matter whether one is searching for the latest yacht, the newest marine electronics and gear to outfit his present boat, or essential yacht services – including marine financing and insurance – he will find what he is looking for at the Newport Boat Show. For more than three decades, the Newport Boat Show has become well known as the West Coast’s total one-stop shopping experience for boating enthusiasts and potential buyers. This is one boating event that is a definite must-see.

The Newport Boat Show’s conveniently accessible venue – Lido Marina Village – is located at Via Lido and Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach, one block south of Pacific Coast Highway. Show hours are: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 (credit cards accepted) for adults and free for children 12 and younger. Free offsite parking and continuous shuttle service will be available.

The Newport Boat Show is produced by the Duncan McIntosh Co. Inc., publisher of Sea Magazine, Boating World, The Log Newspaper, FishRap and Editor & Publisher, and producer of the Lido Yacht Expo.
