Sunseeker International, Sunseeker Middle East and Sunseeker Seychelles were pleased to participate as premier partners at the recent Emirates Airline Invitational charity pro-am golf event taken place at the Kyle Phillips designed Yas Links Golf Course in Abu Dhabi. The event was presented by Abdullah Al Naboodah as well as by additional premier partners, including Landrover and Hawker Beechcraft. Sunseeker proudly exhibited a spectacular 30m Yacht in the Yas Marina, situated next to the official host Hotel, the Yas Viceroy.

Now in its sixth year this corporate event has evolved into one of the most exclusive and prestigious one-day pro-am golf tournaments in the world.  Players at the 2012 tournament included Graeme McDowell 2010 US open champion, Simon Dyson, Sergio Garcia, Colin Montgomerie, and Ross Fisher, to sports personalities such as ex-Dutch International footballer Ruud Gullit. The 2012 Emirates Airline Invitational, a tournament officially sanctioned by the European Tour and one that held Ryder Cup points for tour players proved a fantastic stage on which to promote the Sunseeker product to a global audience.

Richie Ramsay shot a course record 10 under par 62 to finish two shots ahead of Denmark’s Thorborn Olesen and England’s Richard Finch, and was crowned champion of the 2012 Emirates Airline Invitational, receiving the top prize of $100,000, half of which will be donated to a charity of his choice.

The first ever ‘Mallorca Superyacht Days’ will take place at Port Adriano from April 28 to 30, 2012. The superyacht event will be attended by the island’s main yacht brokers and will host around 30 sailing and motor boats measuring over 24 metres long. The ‘Mallorca Superyacht Days’ at Port Adriano is the first event for selling and chartering superyachts to be organised in Spain. 6th Mumbai International Boat Show, February 23-26, 2012

The sixth edition of India’s largest and unique international boat show will bring a perfect opportunity to take part in a well established and trusted platform to cater to arguably the last large untapped leisure boating market in the world. British Designer Alex McDiarmid, based in the South of France, presents his latest project, the 87m motor yacht Iwana. After her success at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show, the Iwana superyacht has grown by 2m and showcases a fresh thinking approach to her styling, while maintaining the classic bow.

The Chinese New Year of the Water Dragon is the year when the luxury yacht Iwana inspired by marine iguanas, lizards and water dragons was created. Recognising this link between marine iguanas, lizards and the Chinese Water Dragon, Iwana is a symbol of prosperity, much like owning a Superyacht.

The Dragon is the most auspicious and powerful of the 12 signs of the zodiac, one associated with high energy and prosperity. It’s also the only mythical and legendary creature in the Chinese astrological calender and is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac.

This year is considered especially auspicious because it is the year of the Water Dragon and Chinese dragons traditionally symbolise potent and auspicious powers. The dragon is a symbol of power and superior control, a good symbol that represents change and mobility.

Main features of the super yacht Iwana:

The main superstructure takes its form from the head of a Dragon while the decks and communication tower are inspired by the dorsal crests of Dragons and beautiful marine iguanas.

Similar to panoramic roof windows on modern cars, the super structure integrates a full length, panoramic roof window running over the Iwana yacht. This incorporates a solar panel system in the ‘Magic Smart Glass’. All glass on the vessel is electronically and colour switchable changeing instantly for privacy, sun/glare protection and visual entertainment.

There appears to be huge expanses of glass used in the yacht. Obviously due to current manufacturing capabilities, a one piece large glazing structure can not be viably produced. Therefore an automotive glazing and bodywork technique is applied in ‘colourway break’. This in essence disguises the supporting structures behind the glass giving a visual impression of one continuous piece of material. The amount of natural daylight that enters the yacht is on another scale altogether.

In order to extend and maximise deck space aft, the hull opens into two, fold down, roll out, and wrap around bathing platforms. The inspiration for this comes from the sun loving, hood expanding, frill-necked lizards in hot countries. The platform incorporates part of the aft hull window turning into a partial glass bottomed floor allowing for the observation of underwater marine life and habitats. Owner decided, A-symmetrical fold out beach platform and seperate tender garage is a possibility as with many features on the Iwana yacht.

On the main deck, a social and relaxation zone, a swimming pool aft gives uninterupted views of the sea and sun bathing for guests. A jacuzzi located on the owners private dinning deck gives spectacular views from the yacht and plenty of room for invited guests. The upper deck sees a very private retreat for the owner inaddition to the private dinning deck. We have not cluttered the decks with excess furniture prefering to keep things simple.

Lighting is subtle around the superstructure, stairs and decks. The superstructure appears to float aft with lighting recessed at the base and a series of features cut into the structure. This along with the three main ‘window slashes’ cut into the superstructure and once lit at 100% gives for a spectacular scene. The wrap around underwater hull effect is of course an option.

The transom and/or tender garage can hold a personal submersible housed longitudinally, craned out, rotated 90° once clear of the transom door and then winch lowered into the water. Custom tenders and toys are under development matching the exterior styling and livery of the Iwana yacht. Water toys include waverunners, sea scooters, windsurfers, kayaks, waterskis, wakeboards and a whole range of scuba and fishing gear are standard.

US based AquaVenture Water Crafts are makers of the fastest personal submersible in the world and Alex McDiarmid is proud to feature a very unique product with his project.

Company Founder and President Richard Maurer comments: “SeaBird’s patent-pending tow system facilitates unprecedented performance as its propulsion is derived from a surface towing vessel. This in essence delivers the power of internal combustion to an underwater vessel. SeaBird is controlled with a joystick from either of its two seats and can maneuver as aggressively as a jet fighter or transport you beneath the surface in a ride as smooth as a Rolls Royce. It can maneuver anywhere within a large cone behind its towing vessel while performing rapid 360 degree rolls, traveling straight up, or diving down steeper than most roller coasters. It will be certified to a submerged speed of 22 knots and a maximum depth of 91 meters.”

Spring date

Adriatic Boat Show will be held in May for the first time, and will keep this date in future as well. Last year’s edition was postponed due to logistical reasons and construction works on the new part of Mandalina Marina, therefore the new concept of the show was adjusted to new spring date. With new dates, May 17th to 20th, Adriatic Boat Show has become the last show in season of nautical shows and it introduces the show to new nautical season.

ABS 2012 will be held in new, even more attractive part of Mandalina Marina, specialy dedicated to megayachts, which is being developed by NCP – Nautical Center Prgin and Turkish partner Dogus Group. The investment of total 40 mil. € in marina and Hotel Šibenik project currently makes 10% of all foreign investments in Croatia which attracts great interest of domestic and international media about Šibenik region.

The ADRIATIC BOAT SHOW will keep its exhibition program which includes domestic and international producers and dealers of yachts, motor boats, sailing yachts, dinghies, nautical equipment, in board and outboard engines, sports equipment, fishing and diving gear, sevond hand vessels and equipment and offer of banks, insurances and leasing houses.
