Azimut Benetti Group: Yachts, Megayachts and Yachtique

February 17, 2011

The Italian company looks to maintain its leading international position with a new strategy brought about by changing market conditions.

In the wake of profound changes in the boating industry triggered by events two years ago, the Azimut Benetti Group has developed advanced organisational solutions following a business model which put the client and his expectations in the center of the process.

Azimut Benetti Group Yachts, Megayachts and Yachtique - Azimut Viareggio

Azimut Benetti Group Yachts, Megayachts and Yachtique - Azimut Viareggio

The new organisation calls for activities to be divided into three main lines of business: YACHTS (boats up to 30 metres), MEGAYACHTS (boats over 30 metres), and YACHTIQUE (strategic services for the owner).

This represents a further focus on client expectations, which began some time ago inside Azimut, starting with products divided into collections having very precise and specific features, which will constitute a unique competitive advantage over other yacht builders.

The YACHTS business line will be under Paolo Casani who began his career with the company in 2008 directing successfully the Yachtique Division dedicated to strategic services. He has twenty-five years experience in the fashion industry and luxury goods sector with companies such as Armani, Valentino, Calvin Klein and Ferragamo.

The manager is now set to provide a significant boost to the market of the yachts up to 30 metres, as well as to the elements of innovation and technological research that have always been the hallmark of the Group’s boats in this segment – a strong, client-oriented vision. Through enhancement of the dealer network by providing dealers with a portfolio of unique services – ranging from technical matters and crew management to financial services – owners will be able to benefit, as before, from an outstanding product, but augmented now by even greater support.

The Megayacht area will be headed by Vincenzo Poerio, long-time manager of the Company, CEO of Benetti for the past 18 years. In this area the main change concern the Azimut Grande Collection, the range of planning boats over 30 meters with a wider possibility of customization. In order to reinforce the tailor-made approach that typifies boats of this size, the Azimut Grande Collection will apply the business model already in use at Benetti (Italian-style relationship management and custom solutions).

The Azimut Grande Collection will benefit of technological solutions, components, and building techniques (from floating floor-board to sound-proofing and air-conditioning systems to personal design equipment, etc.) that are capable of giving customers the highest level of comfort in pure Benetti style.

While still maintaining the distinctive spirit of each of the Group’s three brands (Azimut Yachts, Atlantis, and Benetti), this new organisation gives full expression to the Company’s  desire to continue to keep its leading position in all key markets, as strengthened by its track record of financial stability, base of an unrivalled leadership.

In fact the Azimut Benetti Group is the first yacht importer in the US, important reference market for the Group, and it is also the leader in emerging markets: this is demonstrated by the success collected in China, as recently highlighted in the latest number of China Boating, the most authoritative Chinese nautical magazine, defining Azimut as the first player of the country. Lastly the creation of an important nautical pole in Brazil, opened last June 2010, which, once at full capacity, will be the biggest covered yard at worldwide level.

Azimut-Benetti is the leading and most prestigious builder of mega yachts in the world. The Group, which owns the prestigious Azimut YachtsBenetti and Atlantis brands, each geared to a specific segment of the nautical market – and Fraser Yachts, a brand leader in the services sector – operates in 68 countries throughout the world via a sales network comprising 138 sites.

Rossomare 115 Family Motor Yacht by Vripack

February 17, 2011

The Rossomare 115 motor yacht is a family oriented yacht concept designed by naval architects Vripack. The Rossomare 115 yacht by Vripack was specifically designed to meet the requirements of a family, so they can enjoy precious Family time while onboard. The superyacht also has several safety features and will be equipped with sturdy equipment, straightforward and easy to handle that will be able to encounter all types of climate conditions.

“As with every new design and initial meetings the atmosphere is filled with creativity and questions and ideas sore around our big round table,” says designer Robin de Vries from Vripack’s Design Studio. “In this case the whole yacht is laid out around the bridge deck which at the aft is fully dedicated for the Owner. When I asked him “do you want the Captain sleeping close to the helm station?” he burst out in laughter replied; “”yes, I do want to sleep close to the helm station. That the Owner himself stands many hours behind the wheel is typical for a true Family yacht.

Robin continues; “As the Owner is attracted by a refined classical taste we gave the interior a couple special features. A central staircase leads all the way from the upper sundeck to the lower deck. Traditionally in the fore peak a fully equipped area is situated, suitable for 6 crew members. Untraditionally directly behind that we placed a full beam tender and toy bay which leads to a mid ship dual engine room. Between the engine rooms a spacious corridor let you pass to the two guest state rooms where 4 guests are accommodated as well as a sauna. The guests have a private beach area popping out of the aft of the ship.”

As this is a Family yacht also all systems, equipment and outfitting are suitable designed by Vripack for such service. This yacht has no hodgepodge and is provided with sturdy equipment, straightforward and easy to handle. All equipment and systems will be able to encounter all types of climate conditions. Next to that the entire yacht is provided with backup systems. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, a solution is always at hand.

Although canoe stern styled under water,  the Rossomare 115 Family Motor Yacht by Vripack features a full beam transom round bilge modern displacement steel hull with transoceanic range and aluminum superstructure. She will be built up to Rina Class and Monaco Flag State requirements.

All in all, the Rossomare 115 yacht is designed and engineered in a manner fit for her intended use so that she will be able to safely roam the seas, providing to another Family and their guests smiles on their faces and stories for Family get-to-getters.

Riviera Syndication to launch New 5800 Sport Yacht at Sanctuary Cove

February 16, 2011

Riviera Syndication managing director John Russell said this boat had been extremely well received by the market with seven out of the 10 shares already sold.

“We have got a permanent berth for the 5800 at Sanctuary Cove but every December and January we will take the boat to Sydney and each of the 10 owners will spend one week on board,” John said.

“For the Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve week we plan to use that as a co-operative week where the owners can come on board together to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Sydney and we will have a skipper on board.

“In June, July and August the owners will have the chance to experience the idyllic waters of north Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands.  They also have the chance to travel up to Hamilton Island on board with our skipper Jimmy Thorn.”

Shares in the new 5800 Sport Yacht “Bellini” cost $239,000 each plus a share of the annual ongoing costs.

John said the boat had been personalised with added extras including a rear facing lounge in the cockpit, a kayak, upmarket tender with 20 hp engine, an additional two berth cabin with its own ensuite, air-conditioning, television, and stereo.

“The additional two berth cabin is popular with families as it gives children a separate living area,” he said.

“Riviera Syndication also includes a range of spare parts on board such as a fresh water pump so that in the event if a water pump did fail there is always a spare on board.  From experience we have learnt that if you have a water pump fail on a boat, you have no toilet, no showers, no fresh water so at least with a spare it is simply a swap over and the owners experience no disruption to their leisure time.”

Riviera Syndication owners also receive an individual three day training session on board the boat with a skipper to ensure the owners are confident with the vessel.

John and Sharon Russell and their Riviera Syndication team have more than 30 years experience in the Marine Industry and 11 years in specialising in Syndication.  They have the passion, the experience and the resources to guarantee your experience with Riviera Syndication.  No other syndication company can claim these invaluable attributes. Their success is not by chance it has come from experience, commitment and passion.

The New Hatteras GT Series

February 16, 2011

When Willis Slane launched the first fiberglass sportfishing boat in 1960, he established a solid foundation for what has become the world’s leading builder of luxurious convertibles and motor yachts. During the 50 years since, the 41-foot Knit Wits hit the water, numerous Hatteras models have so proven their mettle offshore that they remain industry benchmarks.

Today, that never-ending quest for perfection has brought the fleet to new heights and given birth to the new Hatteras GT Series. Thanks to intelligent engineering, innovative layouts and advancements in construction technology and hull design, these models are sure to thrill anyone looking for speed, style, a soft ride, long-lasting quality, and a rock-solid hull.

The new Hatteras GT Series is comprised of three models, the new GT54, the redesigned GT60, and the new GT63. This exciting family of tournament-class convertibles is designed for serious anglers and comes to market with best-in-class performance, unforgettable styling, and a construction pedigree that has made Hatteras Yachts the gold standard.

Tournament Speed

The Hatteras GT Series is about unsurpassed performance and seakeeping. Each model in the series has a minimum top-end speed of 41 knots at full load, a 36-knot crusie, and range exceeding 400 nm. This performance is made possible by utilizing resin infusion technology in our solid fiberglass bottom hulls. This provides increased strength while allowing the boat to be much lighter than a traditional hand-laid vessel. Achieving these speeds while preserving our legendary ride, these convertibles represent the next generation in hull design from Hatteras.

Classic Styling

Design began with a study of generations of Carolina-built classics to create a forward-thinking design. As a result, the Hatteras GT Series is a showcase of style that harkens back to the grand years of sportfishing and family cruising. Each model features a striking bow flare, a well proportioned foredeck and sleek deckhouse, as well as tumblehome aft. In essence, we’ve updated the look of the Carolina-style boat. The distinctive styling is so timeless, we believe convertible lovers will be admiring the lines for years.

Fishability

Equipped to meet the standards of the most competitive anglers, these cockpits are designed for improved fishing as well as increased relaxation. Mezzanine seating is designed for comfort and cockpit features include a dedicated tackle center, in-deck fish boxes, and a recirculating live well at the transom. Stowage is excellent, with compartments for gaffs and boat hooks along with ample rod storage. Teak is available for the coaming boards and cockpit sole for those who want to play up the GT Series’ distinctive design.

Hatteras Pedigree

In keeping with Hatteras style, the comfortable accommodations found on these boats feature thoughtful layouts and luxurious amenities. Underneath these dashing good looks, the Hatteras commitment to quality construction continues with a no-compromise build philosophy. Each model in the GT Series is made in the Hatteras tradition, with robust electrical and mechanical systems, and incredibly durable hulls that are resin-infused for light-weight strength and performance.

GMT Composites Carbon Fiber Mast chosen for Hylas 70, Sailing Yacht Archangel

February 15, 2011

The newest Hylas 70, Archangel, has been launched with a GMT carbon fiber mast featuring an innovative in-mast furling system. Archangel will be on display at Strictly Sail Miami, February 17-21, 2011.

GMT Composites Carbon Fiber Mast chosen for Hylas 70, Sailing Yacht Archangel

GMT Composites Carbon Fiber Mast chosen for Hylas 70, Sailing Yacht Archangel

“Archangel’s owner is an exceptionally experienced yachtsman with demanding performance expectations for his boat and her gear,” says Jay Kiley, Director of Sales and Marketing for GMT Composites.  “His requirements included short-handed sailing capabilities, along with an in-mast furling system with infinite push-button reefing abilities.”

Sailing yacht Archangel’s 95-foot carbon fiber mast saved more than 700 pounds aloft versus a standard aluminum mast. The result is a stiffer boat with remarkably reduced heeling and pitching, compared to a traditionally sparred yacht. In addition, carbon is much stronger, pound-for-pound, than aluminum. GMT Composites’ masts are manufactured with hand-laid pre-preg carbon, post-cured in a computer-controlled oven…the same techniques utilized for manufacturing aircraft parts.

The Archangel project is part of GMT’s continuing relationship with Hylas Yachts, providing the respected builder with improved, custom-built, high-performance masts and booms.

GMT Composites, founded in 1984, stands at the forefront of carbon fiber composite innovation and new applications development. GMT provides engineering and manufacturing on a custom basis with production runs, prototyping, and one-off capabilities

Liverpool Boat Show 2011 Cancelled

February 15, 2011

MARINE Industry Events (MIE), the organiser of the 2011 Liverpool Boat Show, has today announced the cancellation of the inaugural event.

MIE cited the damaging effects of the economic climate in the leisure marine sector impacting on exhibitor take-up for the event and said the integrity of the long term potential for a major boat show in Liverpool needed to be protected.

Liverpool Boat Show 2011 Cancelled - Credit Liverpool Boat Show

Liverpool Boat Show 2011 Cancelled - Credit Liverpool Boat Show

Rob Mackenzie, Managing Director of MIE, said: “Our decision is obviously appalling news and it has been an extremely difficult decision to take, not least because of the enormous sense of responsibility and partnership we feel for everyone in Liverpool.

“The city council and its corporate partners, British Waterways, Liverpool Marina, Albert Dock Liverpool and the local sailing community have worked very hard to support this project.

“The failure and the financial loss and its consequences is MIE’s to bear alone, but it is better to cancel the show to protect Liverpool’s reputation rather than to allow exhibitors who booked in good faith and visitors who would have travelled from all over the country in expectation of the participation of brands who’d made late decisions not to take part.

“More than anything else, we’ve cancelled the show to protect the integrity of what we know to be the enormous long term potential for a major Boat Show in Liverpool.”

The Liverpool Boat Show was launched 18 months ago and enjoyed strong support from many of the major marine brands.  The concept of a major national event based in the North and serving the wealthy and rapidly expanding sailing and watersports communities around the Irish Sea was widely welcomed by the specialist marine press.

During the period, more than 300 prospective exhibitors, sponsors and partners visited Liverpool’s world famous waterfront and were astounded by the city’s extraordinary renaissance, the quality of the facilities and the vast potential of its waterspace for a major new marine event.

This enthusiasm rapidly translated into a strong groundswell of contracted and in-principle exhibitor support across a broad cross-section of the leisure marine industry.

However from late November 2010, market sentiment about the economic outlook deteriorated rapidly affecting confidence in boat manufacturers, dealers, smaller retailers and traders.

This negative trend accelerated sharply in late January, with many contracted exhibitors citing a commercially disastrous London Boat Show as the catalyst for their decisions to withdraw from Liverpool, said Mr Mackenzie.

Mr Mackenzie added: “So many of the marine industry’s key players and its press have now seen and understood the unique possibilities of a Liverpool Boat Show, and it is only the consequence of disastrous market conditions which have forced the industry to draw back from embracing the concept fully.

“That long term prize will now fall to organisations other than MIE to deliver.  After a period of reflection, and when the market improves, I believe the industry will collectively recognise the strategic opportunity missed and Liverpool will eventually stage the uniquely vibrant boat show we have tried so very hard to bring to the city.”

Cllr Wendy Simon, cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “It is extremely disappointing that the economic downturn affecting the whole of the maritime sector has caused MIE to cancel the inaugural Liverpool Boat Show

“We are very aware of the economic impact this will have on our tourism economy. However the boat show is just one of three major maritime events we have in place and we will look to those to mitigate the effects for those businesses concerned.

We worked extremely hard to make the Boat Show happen in Liverpool this year as it would have been a great showcase event for the city. However, we have the building blocks in place to stage other exciting maritime events and to revive the Boat Show in the future when the national economic outlook recovers”

Discussions between LCC and other local partners have now started on whether an alternative event can be staged, but MIE will have no further involvement in this process.

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “We have already started to consider what we can do to minimise the economic impact of the cancellation of the Liverpool Boat Show.

“There has already been significant investment by MIE and British Waterways in establishing world-class berthing and staging facilities and we intend to use them to the city’s best advantage.

“In addition to the permanent pontoon legacy, strong foundations for future large maritime events have been laid. Over the course of the last 15 months, MIE brought more than 300 marine businesses and marine specialist press to visit Liverpool.

“Their collective response has been overwhelmingly positive, from Liverpool’s facilities, to the city’s willingness to support such events as well as the robust way in which so many of our private sector companies were prepared to join co-promotional partnerships with major boating brands to the benefit of Liverpool.”

Other maritime events taking place in the city in 2011 are On The Waterfront (the opening of the Museum of Liverpool, including the Centenary of Liver Building) 22-24 July and The River Festival, 8-15 September.
