Ben Ainslie to compete in the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race aboard the 49.5m charter yacht ELEONORA

April 23, 2012

The J.P. Morgan Asset Management, title sponsor of the Round the Island Race as well as title sponsor of triple Olympic Gold medallist Ben Ainslie CBE has announced that Ben’s final public competing performance prior to his bid for a fourth Gold medal in his Finn, will be aboard the Big Class sailing yacht Eleonora. Having entered this year’s Round the Island Race on Saturday 30th June, the luxury charter yacht Eleonora is a 49.5m (162´4´´) spectacular schooner with some excellent vital statistics.

Main Characteristics of the luxury yacht Eleonora

Length overall: 49,50 m / 162,40 ft
Length on deck: 41,50 m / 136,15 ft
Length on waterline: 29,30 m / 96,13 ft
Beam: 8,20 m / 26,90 ft
Draft: 5,20 m / 17,06 ft
Displacement: 214 tons

The Big Class superyacht Eleonora is an exact replica of the schooner Westward which was launched on March 31, 1910 as hull number 692 at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA. She was arguably one of the most famous and best known racing schooners in the world.

The 49.5m yacht Eleonora was built at the Van der Graaf shipyard in Holland and was launched in March 2000. Since then, she has successfully participated in a number of classic sailing regattas and hosted on board a number of high profile guests during her charter activities. She was last seen in the Solent in July 2010 when she competed in the inaugural Westward Cup and she will be returning to compete in the 2012 Event just prior to the Round the Island Race.

During the Round the Island Race, Ben will co-helm with the charter yacht Eleonora’s owner, with the assistance of Eleonora’s captain Mike McMillan. Sharing the 25- strong crew duties will be a number of J.P. Morgan Asset Management guests alongside guests of the owner. They will undoubtedly enjoy the experience of a lifetime.

Ben, who was originally entered on the Beneteau First 40 yacht, is delighted to have this amazing opportunity commenting, “When I was asked to sail on-board the 49.5 metre schooner Eleonora in this year’s J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, it was an offer that was too good to turn down. This will be my seventh Round the Island Race and I’ve competed in everything from an Open 60, Extreme 40, Kerr 40 to an SB3 – but nothing is going to match sailing the 50 mile course on this beautiful classic and I would like to thank her owner Mr Zbynek Zak and J.P. Morgan Asset Management for making this happen.”

Top British 470 sailor Hannah Mills will start this year’s Race

Hannah Mills, one of the country’s most outstanding young sailors and top medal hopefuls this summer, will take time out of her busy training schedule to start this year’s J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. She will be competing in the annual Race alongside fellow Team Volvo sailors Olympic gold medallist, Paul Goodison and her 470 sailing partner Saskia Clark on one of the Volvo Car UK Farr 45 entries.  The 2012 Race is her second attempt to race around the Island after last year’s tough weather conditions forced her team’s Laser SB3 to retire at the Needles.

“It’s a privilege to be starting the 2012 Round the Island Race; such an exciting event with a great atmosphere and I’m really looking forward to taking part again. The aim this year is to not only make it past the Needles but to also be the first Team Volvo boat back to Cowes!” said Hannah Mills, the 23 year-old from Cardiff.

Hannah’s sailing career began at the age of eight in the Optimist dinghy and she is still the only British sailor to have won the Optimist Girls’ World Championships, after becoming the first ever girl to win the British National title a year earlier. Since teaming up with Saskia Clark in the 470 dinghy a year ago the team have enjoyed a number of successes including a silver medal at the 2011 pre-Olympic Test Event, Weymouth and Portland.

The number of J-Class Superyachts attending the UK Regattas revised

April 20, 2012

Coming last of the four Js at this year´s St Barths Regatta, the 42m sailing yacht Hanuman was unfortunately withdrawn from the 2012 UK regattas. Due to the owner´s business elsewhere in June, the 130ft charter yacht Endeavour cannot attend the Falmouth Regatta either, so only four yachts are expected to compete and not the six as being planned for.

J-Class Superyachts

Even though this is a big disappointment, four of these massive yachts sailing in Falmouth bay will still offer a spectacular sight – not to be missed.

The 39m superyacht Velsheda is due to arrive in Falmouth within seven days. Her support ship MY Bystander has already arrived. The 41.55m charter yacht Ranger will very shortly berth in Ocean Village, Southampton, before repositioning to Falmouth by early June. The new 40m yacht Rainbow, launched just before Christmas 2011, is now on sail trials in Holland in preparation for the event. She will be supported by the 57 metre ship, MV Holland. The 43.4m sailing yacht Lionheart is also scheduled to arrive in Falmouth shortly.

The Js are planning to leave at the end of the Falmouth event, and reposition at Solent Refit, in preparation for the Solent regattas. The luxury yacht Endeavour is currently still planning to compete, together with the other four yachts, making a fleet of five.

2nd Rolex Volcano Race, May 19-25, 2012

April 20, 2012

The second edition of the Rolex Volcano Race taking place from May 19 to 25, 2012 in the Tyrrhenian Sea is supposed to welcome twenty-two Maxi yachts measuring more than 18.29m/60ft in length. This popular race marks the start of Rolex’s fascinating Mediterranean yachting season.

In contrast to last year’s inaugural event when one race took place, three segments will be contested, commencing in the form of a day’s inshore racing on Saturday 19 May in Gaeta, a seaport on the Italian mainland located approximately halfway between Rome and Naples. During the second segment, beginning on Sunday 20 May, the fleet tackle Leg One of the 400-nautical mile offshore race, a 100-nautical mile voyage from Gaeta to Capri through the Pontine Islands. On arriving in Capri, the fleet will berth on the island for the night of Monday 21 May before attacking the most arduous segment of the week the following day. A 300-nautical mile adventure around the volcanic, UNESCO-protected Aeolian Islands awaits. The overall winner of this last section will take the plaudits at the finish line back in Capri, receiving the coveted Rolex Trophy and timepiece during the traditional Rolex party at the iconic La Canzone del Mare.

An intriguing contest is ahead. Of the 22 registered entrants, 11 different nationalities are represented. The bulk of the fleet is formed of Mini Maxi yachts measuring 18.29-24.08 metres in length. Nine of the 13 crews that took part in last year’s inaugural race have committed to return: the rise in the size of the fleet and high volume of returning crews proves the race is an enticing prospect.

Of the larger yachts, Filip Balcaen’s 112ft sailing yacht Nilaya (BEL), launched last year, will be amongst the most eye-catching craft. With experienced tactician Bouwe Bekking calling the shots the crew impressed in winning the Supermaxi class at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in 2011. Close competition is guaranteed in the shape of Claus-Peter Offen’s 100ft Wally superyacht Y3K (GER), winner of its category for three straight years at the same event, in the hands of a honed and savvy crew who have enjoyed sustained success for over a decade.

Not only is Offen owner and skipper of the luxury yacht Y3K, he also acts as President of the International Maxi Association (IMA), the event organisers, and is therefore particularly enthusiastic about the event. “In terms of the environment, the race course takes us to one of the most enthralling sailing areas in the world,” he explains. “We are all looking forward to this event and finishing in Capri will be very exciting.”

“Wherever we are competing in the Mediterranean there is tremendous competition. The Rolex Volcano Race will be no exception,” continues Offen. “I expect rather light to moderate winds. Under these conditions tactical decisions will play an important role – as will a little bit of luck. This race takes us through the night with tricky, thermal wind conditions resulting from the changing land and sea breezes. A big lead can turn into a big loss in no time. You have to be cool and patient.”

As is form at an IMA event, there will be a significant presence of Swan yachts. Six are set to feature. One of these is returning entrant, Danilo Salsi’s DSK Pioneer Investments (ITA), the consistent sailing yacht Swan 90 and another class winner at last year’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, and sure to benefit from the experience of the 2011 race when she was the closest rival to eventual winners Alegre (GBR). The array of international crews also features Armeigin 3 (POR), Arobas (FRA), Bronenosec (RUS), Caol Ila (USA), E1 (AUT), Jethou (GBR), Vertical Smile (DEN) and Wild Joe (HUN). Twelve Italian crews complete the roster including Ernesto Gismondi’s Wally 65 Edimetra yacht, a regular on the Rolex sailing circuit, and Marco Rodolfi’s elegant Swan 80 yacht Berenice Bis featuring a crew that performed both at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Middle Sea Race in 2011.

A fascinating contest is in store, comprising a finely-matched, balanced fleet with navigators and tacticians – including former America’s Cup sailors of the calibre of Brad Butterworth, Tommaso Chieffi and Tiziano Nava – currently preparing in earnest for the various meteorological challenges that await them when negotiating Europe’s most volcanic region.

43m Holland Jachtbouw charter yacht THIS IS US (ex Skylge) – winner of the 2012 St Barth´s Bucket

April 19, 2012

Coming first overall both in the regatta and in her Elegantes class the 43m Holland Jachtbouw sailing yacht THIS IS US (ex Skylge) demonstrated her excellent performance at the 2012 St Bart’s Bucket which was held from 22nd – 25th March 2012. With 38 yachts racing, the charter yacht THIS IS US’ Captain Robin Winn reached extraordinary results thanks to the fantastic team effort, keeping out of trouble as well as keeping in clean air.

With the helmsmanship of her veteran guest skipper Patrick Wetter along with navigator & tactician Nick Lykiardopulo and a well-run and motivated crew the luxury yacht THIS IS US warmed up with a respectable 5th place in the race 1 Around the Island, where the conditions were a little damp and a tear to the spinnaker foot slowed progress but this was quickly repaired for the following races.

Holland Jachtbouw superyacht THIS IS US, still aiming for a class win, then exceeded expectations, picking up to pace to sweep to victory in the Not so wiggly race 2 and Wrong way round race 3, bringing home an overall 1st not just in class and a glittering array of silverware and crystal as well as a beautiful barometer.

The ninth Edition of PalmaVela, April 18-22, 2012

April 13, 2012

After 9 years of existence of PalmaVela the Maxi yachts come back once again to be one of the main protagonists of this International regatta. The International Maxi Association, IMA has comprised PalmaVela in its annual Racing calendar for 2012 as well as for the Wally class.

palmavela_2012

The IMA also has designated PalmaVela 2012 as the Mediterranean Championship for the “Mini Maxi”, boats with boat lengths from 18 to 22 metres. This designation is certain to attract a nice number of owners and may increase the number of entries up to 7 to 8 Mini Maxis turning up for PalmaVela.

NEWS AND DEBUTS

PalmaVela, is the event chosen year after year, by many yacht owners or event organisers to present their new yacht or their new Racing circuits. Such is the case of the TP 52 fleet, now that the Med Cup circuit has been cancelled for this year, will be coordinated by the Class Manager, Rob Weiland in a new circuit.

PalmaVela will be the first meeting for this fleet which gathers: Container, RAN, Synergy, Matador and Quantum, although some more teams are expected to join. Guillermo Roemmers, the legendary Argentinian owner of the Matador saga, will take its’ debut with his new TP52, who will compete the whole season under the colours of Audi, Azzurra and the Costa Esmeralda Yacht club.

Another novelty for this years PalmaVela Edition is the one design class, Soto 40 will take PalmaVela as a training event for the European circuit. 5 yachts already have registered for the event, amongst of which, the latest winner of the now extinct Med Cup, the boat IBERDROLA of Agustin Zulueta, and the debut of Andres Soriano who has already participated in other editions of PalmaVela with his Mini Maxi, Allegre.

J-Class sailing yacht LIONHEART

J-Class sailing yacht LIONHEART

Another important debut in PalmaVela, is the first participation of a J-Class sailing yacht Lionheart, for the first time to sail in the bay of Palma. The J80 one design class counts on six entered yachts at present, amongst which, the latest winner of the 30 Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre, Jose Maria Van der Ploeg. The classic fleet counts on one of the most beautiful boats, the 35m superyacht Moonbeam IV.

The dinghy classes, always present in PalmaVela, count on 6 Dragons at present and 12 to 15 Flying Fifteens are expected to enter. The disabled sailing sponsored by the Obra Social La Caixa and Handisport, will provide the competition with two different classes this year, Dam 5.5 and Access.

QUALIFYING EVENT

PalmaVela is a qualifying event for the Spanish Championship for Classic and Vintage yachts and for the Northern Mediterranean National Championship for the Cruisers in ORC rating.

RACING AREAS AND MOORING

Four racing areas will be laid in the bay of Palma for all the entered yachts in PalmaVela. The moorings will be distributed by boat lengths; the big boats such as Maxis, Mini Maxis, Wallys and TP 52 will be allocated in the N00, (gas station pier in the RCNP). The rest of the fleet will be moored around the club house.

Peter Craig Appointed as Principle Race Officer for the Pendennis Cup

April 05, 2012

The 2nd – 7th July 2012 will see the return of the Pendennis Cup to Cornwall. Organised by Pendennis Shipyard every two years the yacht regatta hosts an amazing range of superyachts to the waters of Falmouth Bay for four days of challenging competing. For the first time this year a professional race officer has been selected to take charge of the race.

Esteemed yachtsman Peter Craig from Marblehead, USA, has a wide range of experience with many of the premiere international regattas, including the Bucket Regattas and the Perini Navi Cup, the Maxi Rolex World Cup, the Swan World Championships and the Volvo Ocean Race.

Peter is certainly looking forward to the Pendennis Cup “It’s probably a combination of things – the renowned port of Falmouth, which I’ve heard so many good things about and the beautiful yachts that make up the Pendennis fleet every year. As a kid, I sailed on a wooden, gaff rigged schooner during my New England summers so an epic schooner line up that includes the likes of Mariette, Eleonora, Altair, Adela and Athos will be something special for me. This year the Pendennis Cup fleet consists of a wide variety of vessels in terms of size, rig and age for which we are developing a set of rules that facilitates the best racing conditions for this diverse fleet. I am looking forward to overseeing the racing, especially in the more challenging waters of the UK, where weather as well as tide can have a dramatic influence on a vessel’s performance.”

Peter will be working alongside the race committee from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, who managed the racing in 2010, tying in with their expertise of local conditions to create the most exciting courses possible for both crews and spectators.

To date next year’s fleet includes 13 classic and modern sailing yachts totaling a remarkable 450m + in length overall. The fleet so far consists of the 62m megayacht Athos, and the 55.5m sailing yacht Adela restored by Pendennis in 1995 and a regular visitor to the yard. Other yachts confirmed are the superyacht Altair, the charter yacht Eleonora E (ex Eleonora), the sailing yacht Mariette, the superyacht Mariquita (one of the oldest participants built in 1911), Bequia, Breakaway, Bare Necessities, the luxury yacht Mikado, Zarik, the sailing yacht Unfurled and Velacarina.

Les Voiles de St. Barth 2012: Tight at the top

April 05, 2012

Today´s Les Voiles de St. Barth fleet saw better breeze with a variable 8-12 knot easterly which provided all classes with a right chance to perform. The race committee chose well again – reaching into their bag of 25+ courses and selecting picture postcard worthy courses around the northwestern end of the island as well as neighboring islets: 20-nautical mile for the Maxi and IRC 52 classes, and 17 miles for all of the other classes.

Classic Beauties
The first off the line were Classic and Non-Spinnaker Racing classes. With several dropouts before the regatta began, the Classic class was reduced to two, but you couldn’t have come up with two more standout beauties than the Olin Stephens-designed yawl Dorade and the Fife-built 80-foot yacht Mariella.

The 52’ sailing yacht Dorade was originally launched in 1930 and was considered, then and now, a breakthrough in yacht racing design. Purchased by American Matt Brooks three years ago, Dorade underwent an extensive refit in Rhode Island to ready the boat for a return to ocean racing. Brooks is keen to repeat all of Dorade’s early races, starting with the Newport Bermuda race in June.

Jamie Hilton, tactician on board, said, “What is unique is that you are sailing a boat that is one of the richest pieces of yacht racing history and then at the same time you are trying to race her hard and be cognizant of what it is we are sailing on.” Brooks’ wife Pam, added, “Our goal is to take her back to what she was designed to do.  We want other people who own classic yachts to be encouraged to do that too.”

In the Non-Spinnaker Racing class, Antiguan Bernie Evan-Wong, High Tension, is leading overall, though at press time a protest was pending. Only a point back is Ben Jelic’s J/120 sailing yacht Jaguar Island Water World from St. Maarten.

Next off was Spinnaker Racing 1, with 19 boats the biggest class, and one rife with competition. Leading after two days is Sergio Sagramoso’s J/122 yacht Lazy Dog with two bullets, followed by Frits Bus’ Melges 24 yacht Coors Light with two 2nd place finishes.

Decision vs Defiance
The Martin 49 sailing yacht Defiance is making its first appearance at Les Voiles de St. Barth, along with chartering skipper Clay Deutsch and his crew. But Deutsch is no stranger to the Caribbean racing circuit where he campaigned his Swan 68 yacht Chippewa – very successfully – until he sold it three years ago.

Boatless, he didn’t need much encouragement to get back on the race course, “We had done the St. Topez regatta and for years I dreamed of a St Barth’s regatta, and the moment I sold my boat the regatta started! Tony (his captain on Chippewa) knows I have always fantasized about this regatta and he called when he knew this boat became available.  This is the first time in St Barth’s for almost all of my crew, and they are just blown away – it’s like sailing in the Med!”

At the start of Spinnaker Racing 2, both the newly launched Carkeek 40 Decision and Defiance were keeping tabs on the other. Deutsch said, “ We had a good start with Dee (Smith, Decision’s tactician) calling the shots. They took us right to weather, so we tried to stay clear. The nice thing with this boat is it accelerates shockingly fast. No question they had the advantage at the start, and they threw dirt at us for most of the weather leg. They had a nice lead early on.” A lead they would hold until the races final miles where the fleet rounded the rock of Le Pain du Sucre.

Defiance’s crew could see both Rambler and Decision struggle in the lighter breeze there. Deutsch continued, “We were pacing ourselves with Decision, a quick, well-sailed boat. We got lucky, everyone else got stood up in there, so we kind of took the great circle route and had good breeze all the way around. And we made up a minute and a half deficit at the rock.”

“We are kind of optimizing the boat as we go. We did get two practice days, which gives a lot and we did as much rig tuning as we could, which is a big deal with these kinds of conditions. I think we have the boat set up really well. The boat has a lifting keel, a bow thruster, and a full interior; I’m shocked the boat is as fast as it is. It is impressive to sail this fast in light air.”

Rambling on

In the Maxi class, George David’s 90-foot superyacht Rambler, continues to ramble away relatively unchallenged, maintaining both the line honours and corrected time lead after two days. Just behind is the Swan 80 luxury yacht Selene and the 112-foot Baltic Niyala superyacht.

For the three boats in the IRC52 class, it’s close racing with lead changes, and no completely clear winner yet. In today’s race, Powerplay won by 1m 20sec, while Vesper led Mayhem by only eight seconds.

Leading after two days is Peter Cunningham’s Powerplay, “It was fantastic, it was nail biting around the course. There were big shifts, both velocity and directional. Tony (Rey, tactician) made some great calls, and with Nacho Postigo (navigator) and Jeff Madrigali (strategist) they just get together and have a great brains trust going, and I just do what I’m told!

Cunningham sails regularly on San Francisco Bay where the wind is very predictable and steady with small oscillations. He continued, “This variable stuff is much more challenging racing – but it’s beautiful, you’ve got the islands, the rocks, the water. It’s truly a beautiful place.”

Tomorrow is a layday for competitors, with a full day of activities planned at Nikki Beach. Racing continues on Friday, with two races planned and a first start at 11:00am.

Les Voiles de Saint-Barth 2012: Day 1

April 04, 2012

Tuesday, the first day of racing at Les Voiles de St. Barth 2012, dawned with flags lightly streaming, instilling hope that there would be enough wind. After studying the range of course choice, the race committee settled on a 17-nautical miler that kept the fleet entirely along the southern coast, where the pressure held.

The race committee was quite pleased to get all seven classes off the line in the five starts. The faster boats the Maxis and the IRC 52s managed to sail the complete course, while the smaller, slower boats would find their race shortened, to finish at the Roche le Boeuf, off Gustavia.

At press time, provisionally the class leaders were: Lazy Dog (Spinnaker 1), Defiance (Spinnaker 2), Sailing yacht Dorade (Classic), Paradox (Multi), and the J/120, Jaguar Island Water World (Non-Spinnaker). Ten boats did not finish before the 1800 local time limit.

Around the Race Course

The Maxi and IRC52 classes were combined for their start. All three 52s put themselves at the pin end with Jim Swartz Vesper leading off the line, followed by Ashley Wolfes Mayhem, and Peter Cunninghams Powerplay to weather. The addition of eleven Maxis on the upwind beat played a role too, allowing Mayhem to continue heading inshore, while the other two 52s were forced to tack out.

Tony Rey, tactician on Powerplay said, “We have our three-boat fleet in IRC, but were starting with all the maxis and super yachts. We were on the bad end of an exchange with three of them and had to do big dips. That put us from controlling the two boats to suddenly being third. But, we made the most of it and chipped away. We had three lead changes in our little group: its a good sign of a great week coming that there’s close racing in six knots of wind. As soon as the breeze comes up at the end of the week (as forecast), it’s going to be dynamite! Mayhem held on to finish 1st, followed by Powerplay and Vesper, which caught some of the ubiquitous Sargassum seaweed around their keel and had to stop and clear it off.”

One of the boats that Powerplay had to duck was the Baltic 112 Niyala sailing yacht, which finished 2nd to S/Y Rambler in the eleven-boat Maxi class. Dockside, tactician Bouwe Bekking recounted, “The forecast was bad there was no wind expected. And to our big surprise, there was 10-11 knots, so it was the right call of the race committee to let us go. And it went well for us. Given the displacement, it’s really hard to sail against Rambler because Niyala weighs 90 tons and they weigh about 30 tons, so when the breeze started dropping, they just accelerated away from us. But apples for apples, we did very good against the other cruising/racing boats.”

Boats to Watch

Les Voiles Spinnaker 2 class has a diverse mix of competitive boats, including several Swans, a Volvo 60, an X-Yacht, a Pogo 10.5, and the Carkeek 40 Decision. Designed by South African yacht designer Sean Carkeek, the boat was built by McConaghy in China for father and son Stephen Murray, Sr. and Jr.

Skipper Stephen Murray, Jr., hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. His father Steve Murray, Sr., sails on the boat as well. Sailing as tactician is Steve Benjamin, who will take delivery of hull #2 of the 40-foot design. Skipper Stephen Murray, Jr., has had past success in other classes, winning the 2010 IRC East Coast Championships, the SORC overall, and the Star class districts. Of his newest boat, Decision, Murray says, “It’s everything we’d hoped for and then some. It’s like a miniaturized 52, but more powerful for its relative size.”

The Carkeek 40 design is inspired by the High Performance Rule (HPR). Carkeek, who is on the technical committee for HPR, said, I designed it based on my experience designing TP52s (of which he has designed 15). Boats smaller than 50 feet dont generally rate well under IRC.

Decision was launched last fall and recently competed at the International Rolex Regatta in St. Thomas, where it was doing well before breaking the bowsprit. With just a week to affect a repair and deliver the boat from St. Thomas, getting to the start line in St. Barths was quite an achievement.

Racing continues tomorrow with an 11:00am start.

Dubois Designed superyachts excel at the 2012 Caribbean Regattas

April 04, 2012

Dubois Yachts are celebrating after Dubois designed sailing yachts excelled in both the 2012 St. Barths Bucket Regatta and the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous.

Dubois designed superyachts dominated the numbers at both sailing yacht events with an impressive 10 yachts racing in St. Barths, from a total fleet of 46, and 5 of the 13 competing yachts at the Loro Piana regatta in Virgin Gorda.

The Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous in Virgin Gorda was in its second year and drew an exclusive fleet of both race-orientated yachts and performance cruisers, complemented 12 motor yachts spectating at the superyacht event.

“We were delighted to see Salperton, Bliss, Ganesha, Zefira and Lady B being sailed so well. This excellent event will no doubt attract more yachts in the future – and we expect more Dubois designs as well.” Comment Dubois yachts in a recent press release.

The St. Barths Bucket drew a broad field of sailing yacht types. The most recent Dubois designed sailing yacht Lady B, had great success, winning her class and placing second overall. First place was won by the separately handicapped classic sailing yacht This Is Us.

The 45m Lady B sailing yacht boasted an impressive sailing performance thanks to Dubois’ expertise in design and naval architecture. She sailed conservatively and in the knowledge that her pace would never force risky manoeuvres. She looked spectacular from every point of view.

Congratulations must also go to the Dubois designed sailing yacht Ganesha and S/Y Twizzle, who placed second and third in the Mademoiselles Class. The yachts were sailed beautifully and the crews have taken big boat racing to new levels.

In the year 2000, Ed Dubois sailed his first Bucket Regatta with one Dubois designed sailing yacht, against a handful of other yachts competing. Fast forward 12 years and what an endorsement to the Dubois designed sailing yachts and a wonderful demonstration of the broad and lasting appeal of yachts designed by the British design firm.

Other yachts were also sailed very well – the newly owned KOO sailing yacht showed her paces together with S/Y Genevieve, charter yacht Bliss, charter yacht Moonbird, S/Y Desitnation, Salperton yacht and Zefira.

At anchor in the bay spectating were other elegant Dubois superyachts including S/Y Inmocean, sail yacht Artemis and the mighty superyacht Kokomo launched in 2010.

We wish the owners of the Dubois superyachts a wonderful season ahead, whether they are staying on the Caribbean, cruising to America, or heading to the Western Mediterranean for private use or for the upcoming charter season.
