Go Yachting – an official broadcaster for 2012 Top of the Gulf Regatta

For the second time, Go Yachting, Asia‘s leading marine TV production specialists, have been selected as official broadcaster for the 2012 Top of the Gulf Regatta. This largest sailing event in Asia will take place at Ocean Marina Yacht Club, Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, Thailand from 4th to 8th May 2012.

Said Duncan Worthington, Co-Founder of Go Yachting, “We’re really pleased to be back filming the Top of the Gulf Regatta for a second year. Working with the organisers in 2011 was great and we are looking forward to developing on last years successful delivery.”

Over 600 participants competing in more than 300 water craft are expected to take part in this years Top of the Gulf (TOG) Regatta, and racing will take place in four course areas off Ocean Marina Yacht Club. The keelboats and multihulls will race in Course Area 1; dinghies and beach catamarans in Course Area 2; and the Optimists, competing in the Thailand Optimist Nationals, will race in Course Area 3. New for this year is the NeilPryde Racing Series – upto 30 one-design ISAF RS:One windsurfs – which will be taking part in the Top of the Gulf Regatta over the first two days, and racing in Course Area 4.

“The multi-class nature of the Top of the Gulf Regatta makes it quite unique. Having such a diverse range of craft on the water, spread over four different course areas each independently operated, and with the addition of the NeilPryde Racing Series this year, makes it one of the most complicated regattas to film,” commented Worthington. Adding, “We will be using the latest High Definition (HD) cameras shooting from high-speed support boats, as well as a series of waterproof onboard HD cameras that will put the viewer in the heart of the action.”

“The Go Yachting team did a wonderful job of filming the Top of the Gulf Regatta last year. It’s a difficult event to film and they managed to tell the story and cover all of the regatta’s elements, in an excellent Highlights Show,” said William Gasson, Founder and Chairmen of the Top of the Gulf Regatta organising committee.

Since launching in early 2011, Go Yachting have filmed many regional regattas and produced dedicated Highlights Shows for broadcast online and satellite TV networks globally, including: 2012 Royal Langkawi International Regatta, 2012 The Bay Regatta, 2011 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, 2011 Phuket Raceweek, 2011 Samui Regatta, 2011 Phuket Multihull Championship, 2011 Hua Hin Regatta, and more.

“Our goal from the beginning has been to offer professional TV and Production services for the marine leisure industry in Asia, at competitive rates. We have a team of dedicated TV professionals who can produce, and have produced, international-standard TV productions for global broadcast,” added Worthington.

All Go Yachting event productions, including the monthly Go Yachting show, are produced in Full HD for traditional (satellite, cable, terrestrial) broadcast, and are hosted online, as well as through associated social media outlets on facebook, twitter, google+, youtube and vimeo, ensuring a large global reach.

Karpaz Gate Marina to host Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally

Karpaz Gate Marina (KGM), part of the newly created Karpaz Bay Resort in Northern Cyprus, will host the 2012 Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) yachts. This will be the second time that the superyacht marina team has welcome the annual rally, with around 60 yachts sailing around the highlights of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The yacht owners and guests participating in the rally will arrive at Karpaz Gate Marina on June 5th and will depart on June 6th. During their time at Karpaz, they will have access to all the marina facilities, be provided with designated berthing free of charge, and a welcoming party is being arranged.

Since the rally previously visited the marina in June 2011, the development has moved on significantly. Now all aspects of the marina, promenade, marina buildings and dry dock are complete, and more facilities are available to visitors including a mini supermarket, children’s play area, and gym. The marina is now also an official port of entry to the region, and visitors can take advantage of duty-free fuel. Hauling out and over-wintering facilities at the dry dock are also on offer.

Karpaz Gate Marina is the country’s first-ever luxury marina and is located on the stunning Karpaz Peninsula in the north-eastern tip of Northern Cyprus. It offers 300 berths including 15 berths for super yachts and mega yachts up to a maximum of 60 metres in length.

The EMYR began last weekend (22 April) and will visit 18 marinas and ports during its 38 day duration.

In collaboration with its Spanish partner ADP (Alfonso de Prada), the superyacht marina Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona has launched a permanent, agile as well as high quality painting service for its clients.

Since March, the new yacht painting service offers a wide array of solutions that include painting of hulls and superstructures, antifouling removal, application of epoxy rust inhibitors, osmosis treatment, mast painting and burnishing, amongst others.

ADP’s 25 years experience in the nautical industry enables Vilanova’s technical area to offer a certified professional quality service with the use of cutting edge technologies in maintenance and application of products that aim to achieve high customer satisfaction levels, such as metalized finishing and propellers and shafts silicone treatments. In this sense, Vilanova’s technical area, through its partner ADP, has agreements with the industry’s top brands such as Awlgrip, International Marine Coatings Antifoulings, Epifanes Varnishes, West System y Propspeed.

The division employs a team of professionals permanently based at Vilanova’s facilities and offers a technical management service led by engineers for the supervision of applications and treatments. Alfonso de Prada, CEO of ADP, stressed the strategic value of the collaboration agreement with Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona and commented: “The facilities of Vilanova’s technical area are excellent for yacht maintenance and refit and enable us to carry out projects in an efficient and comfortable manner. We are proud to be part of such a professional team”.

Ignacio Erroz, General Manager of Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona, said: “Thanks to the agreement between our marina and ADP, we can now provide an in-house comprehensive painting service as part of our mission to offer customers the best possible service, quality and price”. “We have already approached other companies that provide repair and refit services and we hope to reach similar agreements with them”, he added.

Phase I of Vilanova Grand Marina – Barcelona’s technical area is fully operational since the beginning of 2011. Its first year activity levels have exceeded expectations and they are expected to continue rising in 2012 given the good performance of the recent months March and April, when the technical area has reached its maximum capacity.

With some 10 – 15 world-famous superyachts on display, together with an impressive line-up of other smaller luxury yachts, boats and tenders, the three-day show, running from April 27th-29th provides visitors with a unique opportunity to delve deeper into this luxury lifestyle – one that is showing signs of growth within the region.

The Singapore Yacht Show 2012 features some of the world’s largest and most luxurious power and sailing superyachts. The Westport 130 luxury yacht Sea Bear, formerly owned by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, is also on display and is now available for Singapore charter. The 40 metre superyacht is managed by Aqua Voyage, the nautical arm of KOP Hotels & Resorts, and forms part of its fleet of luxury yachts. Other debuts also include the luxury catamaran yacht Phatsara and Singapore-built 39m motor yacht Megaway 128 both presented by Northrop & Johnson; a Cranchi 64 presented by Hong Seh Marine; and celebrating Year of the Dragon is the Torpedo, by J-Craft.

The show is rapidly gaining momentum as the foremost yachting industry showcase in the Asia Pacific region. Following the success of the preview edition last year, the show has more than doubled in size in every aspect, from the number of superyachts, finely crafted boats and exhibitors to luxury lifestyle partners. This year’s edition features a first class line-up of the world’s most influential yachting brands, which include Feadship, Sanlorenzo, Palmer Johnson, Westport, Heesen, Azimut, Princess, Cranchi, SportRiva, Mangusta and J–Craft, among others.

There is also strong participation from leading yacht brokers such as Burgess, Ocean Independence, Simpson Marine and Northrop & Johnson. Other top exhibitors in the Dockside Village include Sevenstar, Gulf Craft, KOP Group, and Luxury Yachts.

James Island Yacht Club opens new facilities

Wampler Drive in Charleston Harbor, situated on James Island, South Carolina, USA saw a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 10th to celebrate the grand opening of the James Island Yacht Club´s new dock. The Club’s Commodore, Mike Spivey, along with a large number of the club’s members, as well as professionals who helped with the project attended the ceremony. The new dock replaces the club’s previous launching facilities situated at the same site.

The club’s existing fixed pier and small launch float were replaced with a new fixed pier and 400’ of concrete floating docks from Bellingham Marine. “The [new] dock was constructed with great care and sacrifice by a dedicated group of yacht club members who served unselfishly to ensure its success,” remarked Spivey.

Situated at the end of the new fixed pier is a 240’ Unifloat dock for short term moorage and running parallel to the pier is a 160’ Unifloat launch dock.  Two new gangways provide pedestrian access to the floating docks from the pier and a hoist helps move boats in and out of the water.

“The new facilities have had a positive impact on the club as well as the community,” said David B. Hazeltine, lead architect on the project for Cusick Hazeltine Architects, LLC.  “Without Bellingham Marine’s involvement, the project would not have been supported by the club.  The company’s extra efforts and dedication to the process of working through the design and pricing made all the difference and made it a pleasure to work through the details.”

The 2nd annual Singapore Yacht Show officially opens on April 27, 2012 at ONE°15 Marina Club, Sentosa Cove with the spectacular opening ceremony. This popular show is the Asia´s top platform for exhibiting superyachts.

The show will feature some of the world’s largest and most luxurious power and sailing superyachts, along with other luxury boats, which will be on display from April 27 to 29.

The show is rapidly gaining momentum and renown as the foremost yachting industry showcase in the Asia Pacific region. Following the success of the inaugural edition last April, the show has more than doubled in size in every aspect, from the number of superyachts, finely crafted boats and exhibitors to luxury lifestyle partners. This year’s edition will host some of the world’s most influential yachting brands, which include Feadship, Sanlorenzo, Palmer Johnson, Westport, Azimut, Mangusta and J–Craft.

There is also strong participation from leading yacht brokers such as Burgess, Ocean Independence, Simpson Marine and Northrop & Johnson. Other top exhibitors in the Dockside Village include Sevenstar, Heesen, Gulf Craft, KOP Group, Leica and Luxury Yachts.

High net worth visitors can also look forward to a showcase of supercars this year. Eurosports Automobile and Munich Automobiles will be unveiling the Lamborghini LP 550-2 Gallardo Spyder and the all new BMW M6 respectively.

The opening hours of the Singapore Yacht Show are from 10am to 7pm over the three days.

New superyacht marina at Roscoff, the Bay of Morlaix, France

Next June, the Bay of Morlaix in France is expecting to welcome the first yachts coming to the new marina at Roscoff. With bookings opened in November 2011, over 300 of the available 625 berths have been already taken.

Work on schedule
Yachting as a sector is expanding fast, to the point where existing facilities are no longer adequate. It was in order to remedy this situation that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Morlaix created the project for a new deep water marina.

It complements existing amenities at Roscoff-Bloscon, where the CCI already manages the commercial and fishing activities. Part of a coordinated project to improve facilities for yachts in the Bay of Morlaix, the new port will offer 625 berthing spaces for all boat types, 50 of which will be set aside for visitors and 13 of which will be adapted for persons with reduced mobility.

Work is currently on schedule, which is good news for those looking forward to taking to the seas this summer. In June, the marina will be ready for action. All that remains to be done is to build the land-based infrastructures, including yachting and fishing buildings, utilities, car parks, landscaping, etc. Work will begin on these in the summer and be completed in the spring of 2013.

52 million invested
The improvements to the Roscoff-Bloscon site represent an overall investment of some 52 million euros (before tax), 41 million of which are accounted for by the construction of the maritime infrastructures and split as follows: 21.5 million for yachts, 10.5 million for the fishing concession, and 9 million for commercial activity.

The CCI of Morlaix is providing 60% of the investment. The rest has been made available by funding from Europe, the French State, the Regional Council of Brittany, the Finistère County Council (which is also the licensing authority), the Commune Councils of the Léonard Region, and the Town Council of Roscoff.

50% booked up
Known principally for ferry links to England and Ireland and its fish auctions, the Port of Roscoff will soon be as famous for its yachting. The change in mentality is well under way as is illustrated by the high number of bookings made since last November. At the moment, just over 300 of the available 625 spaces have been taken, in other words 50%. Spaces are still available for all boat sizes.

Depending on the length of the yacht, the annual rate for a berth ranges from 1,076 euros to 5,709 euros. The detailed price list as well as booking forms can be downloaded at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce internet site.

Sealine South Coast opens its new premises at MDL’s Hamble Point Marina

MDL’s Hamble Point Marina in the UK has recently welcomed the Sealine South Coast company with its new state-of-the-art premises. The new offices will offer an entire variety of services from new boat sales to brokerage and after-sales services to both new as well as existing Sealine customers.

There is a state of the art sales office, an undercover sales area for viewing the Sealine range of models, together with a large workshop for servicing and repairs. In addition there are visitor berths for Sealine customers on the river and moorings in the marina. The Sealine Sea School and training centre has also relocated to this exciting new location
