The Ferretti Group, a world leader in the design, construction and sale of motoryachts, encompassing a unique portfolio of some of the most exclusive and prestigious brands in the nautical world, inaugurates the new 2011-2012 nautical year in Cannes, at the 34th Festival International De La Plaisance. With an impressive fleet of 29 yachts on display, 10 models are noted as world previews, including: the Ferretti 720 yacht, Pershing 108’ superyacht, Pershing 74’, Itama 45’, Riva 75’ Venere Super, Rivarama Super, Riva Iseo,  Ferretti Custom Line 124’ yacht, Ferretti Custom Line 100’yacht, Navetta 33 Crescendo by Ferretti Custom Line and motor yacht My Navetta 43 “Lady Trudy” by CRN.

As usual, the traditional Ferretti Group Meeting was the occasion for the Group’s Chairman and Founder, Norberto Ferretti, and for the Chief Executive Officer, Giancarlo Galeone for drafting the first preliminary results of the 2010-2011 nautical year. This nautical year has been characterized by a further expansion at an international level and by the launch of innovative models, confirming the great ability of the Ferretti Group to interpret the trends of the nautical market as well as the needs of its customers. With an increasing demand for Made in Italy luxury products, the company is constantly improving its standards of exceptionality, quality and performance, despite the challenging moment at the macroeconomic level.

The preliminary results of the nautical year ended on August, 31st, 2011 show a Value of Production of about 521 million euro, with an increase of +12% compared to approximately 465 million euro on August 31st, 2010. The Order Portfolio as of August, 31st 2011 is approximately 401 million euro, with a increase of +55% compared to 257 million euro as of August, 31st 2010, with a volume of new orders of about 552 million euro, an increase of +27% compared to about 434 million euro of the 2009-2010 nautical year.

During the 2010-2011 nautical year the Ferretti Group has confirmed its strong commitment to international expansion, through a strategy focused towards the local development and marketing growth in areas with strong present and future development opportunities.

In April 2010, the Group signed an agreement with its historic dealer and centre for production, sales, and after-sale service of all the yachts of the brands of the Group for the Brazilian market, Ferretti Group Brasil. The new production plant in the Sao Paolo area was officially inaugurated in June 2011.

With this same perspective, in July 2011, the company signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Shandong Heavy Industry Group (“SHIG”) – a Chinese holding, controlling leading companies in the sector of engines, generators and propulsion systems for the creation of a joint venture with the aim of developing an industrial partnership for the design, production and sale of motor yachts for the market of Greater China (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao) and other emerging markets . This initiative, which focuses on the development of new brands and models – not in competition with the present models of the Ferretti Group’s current portfolio- has the purpose of exploiting synergies starting with the respective technological and industrial skills, and will not determine impacts on the current production set up of the Group, traditionally based in Italy. Moreover, SHIG will evaluate the possibility to make a cash investment into the Group, for the acquisition of a minority shareholding.

As for North America, an area considered as strongly strategic by the Group, the distribution network has been strengthened further with new sales centres established in the North East USA, in Greenwich, CT, Newport, RI and Sag Harbor, NY as well as supporting Allied Marine in maintaining its successful brokerage activities. In the next few months, this process will expand to Michigan and California. The Group will take part in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, displaying a preview for the continent, the new Custom Line 100’, the yacht which has recently been sold to an American customer as well as other new debut models for the US market including the Ferretti 720 yacht and Riva 86’ Domino motor yacht.

As for market segments, during the 2010-2011 nautical year, Ferretti Group, which ranked first in the 2011 Global Order Book, the most thorough and accurate analysis of the global nautical industry, issued every year by authoritative international nautical magazine ‘Showboats International’, focused on medium and large yachts and on continuous product and process innovation, constantly launching new models and looking for technological solutions to be ahead of market trends.

Continuing on its strategy of constant product innovation, which envisages the launch of 42 new models between 2011 and the end of 2013, in Cannes the Ferretti Group will present:

  • Ferretti 720 by Ferretti Yachts;
  • Pershing 108’ and Pershing 74’ by Pershing;
  • Riva 75’ Venere Super, Rivarama Super, and Riva Iseo by Riva;
  • Itama 45’ by Itama;
  • Custom Line 124’, Custom Line 100’ and Navetta 33 Crescendo by Ferretti Custom Line;
  • Navetta 43#7 ‘Lady Truly’ by CRN.

At the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes the 200th hull of Aquariva, the elegant 33 foot vessel descending from the legendary Aquarama, will be on display. Representing the revival of the historic brand Riva after it has been acquired by the Group in 2000, Aquariva is a timeless icon of elegance and style.

The Ferretti Group is on a continuous quest for technological solutions in an effort to be ahead of market trends. This search led the Group to further develop the hybrid propulsion system “Zero Emission Mode”, which has been succesfully applied to the new Riva Iseo. The hybrid propulsion and Zero Emissions by means of the ‘Hybrid Propulsion ZEM’ version is particularly suitable for lakes or other areas where cruising is forbidden. This hybrid propulsion system is the result of the R&D activity of AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), the research and design centre of the Group. This technology was first applied on the Mochi Craft Long Range 23 and was noted as the most advanced “green” yacht at the world level, awarded by the Union Internationale Motonautique. Once again proving to be the most advanced technology in this field, the Group is coping with every day more demanding owners, who are particularly interested in investing in yachts that guarantee the reduction of consumption, emissions, and noise.

“Product culture has always been our DNA and our aim, more than ever, is to focus our energy on model innovation and on the continuous search for new technological and style solutions, in order to be ahead of the new trends of the nautical market at the world level” – declared Norberto Ferretti, Chairman and Founder of the Ferretti Group. “For this reason, I consider presenting in Cannes with an impressive fleet of 29 yachts, with 10 world previews, the best and the most concrete sign of the strength of our Group and of the absolute quality and typical Italian elegance which have always characterized us and resulted in a 43 year commitment to manufacturing our yachts”.

“We underwent a period of major changes, but today we can proudly state that the industrial and market choices made in the last two years by our Group have been confirmed by facts. The Group focused on its core business and became even more international, expanding in the world nautical market and into emerging economies. This has already proved to be the best choice overall. Results show that it has provided and will provide many new opportunities for further developments in future years” – declared Giancarlo Galeone, Chief Executive Officer of the Ferretti Group. “Our goal is to continue on this double and parallel path, focusing and strengthening our brands and being the protagonists of new markets where Ferretti Group symbolizes passion, innovation and excellence”.

Wally launched Maxi racing yacht Wally//Otto

September 07, 2011

World leader in yachting innovation, WALLY, is proud to launch a new sailing yacht Wally//Otto, which marks the beginning of new era for Maxi racing yachts. Wally/Otto superyacht is a state of the art 80ft, One Design racing yacht, with a one of a kind versatile design that intensifies year-round enjoyment and long-term value.

▪ Uncompromising racing performance at the highest levels
▪ Smarter, more realistic racing campaign budgets
▪ Quick conversion to a comfortable day-cruiser
▪ Much greater longevity and value retention

Once again, Wally has created a breakthrough yachting concept with the launch of a completely new idea. The Wally//Otto superyacht is the only One Design Maxi racing fleet. Sailing yacht Otto has been designed to sail with a limited crew and limited sail inventory to minimize campaign costs and maximize enjoyment.

The Otto yacht also features a unique aft ’guest experience’ area where private or charter guests can enjoy the racing in comfort and safety, removed from the operations of the racing crew. When not racing, the Otto can quickly transform into a comfortable and easy to sail ‘day-cruiser’, extending the enjoyment of the boat across the whole season.

As a One Design fleet, the Wally S/Y Otto can expect greater racing longevity. Otto has also been designed with the necessary headroom and bulkhead positions to successfully convert into a spacious Wally cruiser-racer, with salon, galley and three guest cabins.

This unique approach to racing yacht design extends Otto’s life beyond competitive sailing, ensuring greater year-round enjoyment, a longer life and, like all Wally yachts, a much greater residual value.

Speaking at the launch of Wally//Otto superyacht during round four of the FT Wally Grand Prix Series in Porto Cervo, Wally Founder and President, Luca Bassani Antivari said, ”Otto is a new concept; a pure racing yacht which will allow owners to compete at the very highest level alongside the Americas Cup and Olympic standard sailors already competing in the Wally//Class. This intelligent, flexible design dispenses with the ownership challenges normally associated with a traditional ‘pure’ racing yacht.”

Luxury Super Yacht Tender “Wally//One” – full specification released

September 02, 2011

The prestigious manufacturer of super-luxury motor and sailing yachts WALLY, has released today the full specification of its new icon, Wally//One super yacht tender. Delivering superior performance, technology, comfort and space, the successor to the Wally//Tender will be seen for the first time at the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, 6-11 September.

Luxury Superyacht Tender Wally//One

Luxury Superyacht Tender Wally//One

“In Wally//One we wanted to give people a boat that was fun to use as a day boat while still being practical as a tender. We have made smarter use of the deck and cabin spaces and included more luxuries – wonderful details that make it a great place to relax and entertain – at the same time as making it more economical and more manoeuvrable,” explains Wally founder and President, Luca Bassani Antivari.

Wally//One luxury yacht tender has been designed to give customers more for less, reducing length, consumption and price, while creating a day boat that has flexible seating, increased deck and sunbed space and a host of modern conveniences. Slightly shorter and narrower than its predecessor, the hugely successful Wally//Tender, Wally//One motor yacht tender offers greater usability and greater luxury.

Utilising a full composite sandwich construction, Wally’s uncompromising approach to ride quality is manifested in a revolutionary hull design, incorporating unique lines and a deep vertical bow. This design allows the hull to pierce the wave, resulting in an exceptionally smooth ride even in choppy waters. The vertical bow is also engineered to optimize speed, its Yanmar V8 twin turbo engines taking Wally//One to a top design speed of 47 knots.

Wally//One Motor Yacht Tender

The view from the helm has a distinctly sporting aesthetic, with cockpit control panels veneered with carbon fibre and accented with satin steel switches. Featuring multi-functional Yanmar instruments and hydraulic steering and trim systems, Wally//One tender is built for ease of use and manoeuvrability. Optional navigational equipment is also available, including Simrad Chartplotter and Autopilot systems, complemented by Broadband 3G Radar and Depth Sounder sensor.

New helm and deck seating has been designed specifically for Wally//One, incorporating carbon fibre for reduced vibration and rapid-dry mesh coverings. Cushions throughout the deck area are constructed of open cell foam and mesh allowing for instant drainage. The optional Bimini top, constructed of a carbon fibre weave, is supported by carbon fibre struts for increased strength and reduced vibration.

Deck space has been increased, both forward and aft, the new layout allowing guests to walk unimpeded round the deck. Traditional teak has been used, providing comfort under foot and on deck stability is provided by side and cockpit handles finished in satin steel or nubuck leather depending on customer preference. Wally//One yacht tender also features an aft shower and an electric swimming ladder, affording guests easy access to the water.

Additional optional equipment available to heighten enjoyment of the enlarged deck space includes a removable forward cockpit table with folding seats and forward cushion for eight guests to dine in comfort. There is additional aft passenger seating, fixed or transformable aft sunbeds and a full cushion covering for the aft deck. Awnings with carbon fibre stanchions are also available for both the forward and aft sunbathing areas. With additions such as an integrated sound system with iPod connectivity, Nespresso machine and on-deck refrigerator, Wally//One is the perfect space for relaxation and entertaining.

The interior cabin is the embodiment of contemporary refinement with a generous double berth. The flooring and interior panels are finished in soft and supple nubuck leather, whilst fixtures and fittings are crafted from satin steel, providing design highlights and continuity with the fittings on deck. The carbon fibre above deck is also echoed in the bathroom area of the cabin, where utilities include sink, head, shower and illuminated mirror.

The hull and deck design seamlessly incorporates fundamentals such as life raft storage with details such as deck self-draining systems, wrap-around fender and anti-slip paint on the aft bulwark. A full palette of optional hull finishes is available, including Awlcraft solid and metallic paints and an antifouling finish.

With two engine specifications to choose from, the superyacht tender Wally//One will be priced from 580,000 euros with 315 hp engines and 620,000 euros for the 370 hp engine model.

53m Motor Yacht KETOS by Team For Design – by Enrico Gobbi for Rossinavi

September 02, 2011

The 53m Ketos superyacht is the new tri-deck motor yacht by TEAM FOR DESIGN – ENRICO GOBBI for the well known Italian shipyard ROSSINAVI. Ketos 53M yacht was created exclusively for Rossinavi by the talented designer Enrico Gobbi, who is responsible for her stunning exterior as well as interior design. The mega yacht KETOS  follows the most known and ‘smaller’ KETOS 48M RPH Yacht, officially under construction at the Rossinavi shipyard in Voareggio.

Profile of the KETOS 53m yacht designed by Team For Design - by Enrico Gobbi for Rossinavi

Profile of the KETOS 53m yacht designed by Team For Design - by Enrico Gobbi for Rossinavi

Ketos 53m yacht has sporty lines and a light marine alloy hull and superstructure that ensure an excellent trim and superb performance. Its characteristic vertical windows (named by Enrico Gobbi ‘cathedral windows’) intercept the smooth lines of the vessel’s flanks making this magnificent yacht instantly recognizable to all.

Furthermore, the clean, sleek and stylish lines inspired by the purity of nature combine with hi-tech details worthy of an aircraft or a racing car console in the dynamic design of this highly original yacht. Motor Yacht Ketos is a true blend of size and agility, strength and elegance, power and pleasure, and is certainly worthy of its name (the word Kětos being the Ancient Greek term for the noblest of all marine mammals, the ‘whale’).

Another view of the 53m Ketos superyacht by Team For Design - by Enrico Gobbi for Rossinavi

From the careful study of it’s exterior lines this tri-deck yacht encloses very spacious interior areas, larger than most m/y of the same length on the market. In fact, despite it’s sleekness, Ketos is finished to an impeccable standard of comfort: its bright, spacious and luxurious interiors ensure an ongoing contact with the sea and the sky.

The designer Enrico Gobbi pursued the intent to create a project without distinction between the design of exterior and interior spaces. The continuous dialogue between these is emphasised by the hydraulically operated platform in the Owner’s Suite and in the main salon. Most important the four vertical windows on both sides of the Owner’s Suite give great light inside and a splendid view over the sea.

Technical Specification of the Ketos 53m Yacht by Team For Design - by Enrico Gobbi

The exterior layout of this yacht presents an innovative and spacious sunbridge area at the bow, much appreciated by many Owners because of the privacy it offers especially in the marine. In this area there is a double dinette for all guests, and a very large sunpad with a Jacuzzi whirpool with glass front and scenic waterfall. This area also has coverage that provides shade to the dinette, a self bar, and two retractable televisions.

At stern, there’s a 15 sqm hydraulically operated platform for the access to sea, and inside the Owner may choose between the possibility to have a beach lounge/relax area or a private gym overlooking the sea. The interior layout of the superyacht Ketos 53m is most flexible, thanks to the careful study of all spaces and the possibility to choose between different possible solutions. On the main deck find space a spacious formal salon and a dining area, the main lobby with scenic stairway connecting all decks, and the Owner’s suite located forward. The very large area dedicated to the Owner is about 70 sqm and has been thought in various versions, it is characterized by the typical Ketos ‘cathedral windows’ and by the hydraulically operated platform which guarantees a breathless panorama of the sea.

On the upper deck just aft of the wheelhouse there is a more informal yet very large cinema salon with a bar, and on the exterior deck a dining area has been designed for all guests. The lower deck has been studied to host 12 guests in 4 guest cabins and 2 spacious VIP cabins. Last but not least the fly deck is spacious enough to have a flexible layout in which find place a formal dining table, a large bar, a comfortable lounge area, and a sun pad with a Jacuzzi whirlpool.

Regarding the interior spaces, the style is characterized by a compromise between modern lines though never pushed to an extreme minimalism, together with precious materials that give to the interiors a superior quality of elegance and luxury. The main materials used are wengè wood, shiny lacquered wood, along with precious hand-sewed leather coverings, and very refined details in onyx. Some areas like the main lobby and dining area have elegant surfaces of backlit red onyx that create particular lighting atmospheres.

September 02, 2011

Over four thousand crew are preparing to do battle from 24 September at the 13th edition of Les Voiles. They will be racing aboard three hundred of the finest futuristic yachts and the most elegant traditional yachts on the planet. The event will be run in the exceptional setting of the bay of Saint Tropez, bathed in light and swept by the lovely breeze of early autumn. The Société Nautique de Saint Tropez, which has presided over the organisation since 1999 with the close collaboration of the Town, wishes to honour the spirit of the event for this the thirtieth anniversary of the original Nioulargue: seamanship, fair play on the water and on shore, coloured by good humour and some brand new features, will all spice up what is set to be a remarkable edition.

The breath of the Nioulargue

“We’d like everyone to remember, or learn, how the Nioulargue came about” points out André Beaufils, President of the Société Nautique, “when in 1981, Patrice de Colmont demonstrated his familiar intuition in the creation of a no stakes regatta between a group of friends who had come together for the end of the summer, prior to the following sailing season.” Initially christened the “Club 55 Cup”, the event was contested by two boats, Ikra and Pride, both of which are scheduled to race in the Var region’s port some thirty years on! From these beginnings as a duel, the event adopted the name Nioulargue. Hailing from the Provençal “Nioulargo” – literally “Offshore nest”- after an area of shallow water situated 5 miles from the bay of Pampelonne and serving as a haven for the reproduction of numerous species of Mediterranean fish. It is also very interesting to note that it was this original race between a 12mJI classic and a modern racer which coloured the Nioulargue’s character. It went on to become Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, which is synonymous with getting together boats from the latest generation and those which have written the history of yachting on the same race zone.

Modern craft: more than 50 yachts measuring over 18 metres

Thirty years on from the original event, the success of the event’s formula has been unfailing!

Among the superyachts, the Wally Yachts have become a ‘trademark’ not to be ignored at Les Voiles over the past ten years or so. These prestigious craft, commonly manoeuvred by crews of 25, were created by Luca Bassani’s team and really create a stir both in port and on the water. This year all eyes will be on Inti (24 metres) – the former Indio – a title smasher at Palma Vela, which is likely to rank as favourite in the racing at Saint Tropez. Playing opposite her will be Magic Carpet 2 (28m80) – which is competing in her last season as we await the arrival of the very first Wally Cento (100 feet) on order for next year -, the giant sailing yacht Esense (44m) as well as Angel’s Share – the former Wally 130 – entirely revamped at the owner’s request and set to compete in Les Voiles in her new anthracite hull livery.

Among the most popular Maxis, the duel between Sojana (35m – Farr 115) and Rambler 100 (30m – Reichel Pugh) mid-Atlantic won’t unfortunately be echoed in Saint Tropez. Indeed the 100 footer skippered by Australian Mick Harvey unfortunately capsized mid-August, near the Fastnet Rock, having lost her keel. Peter Harrison’s Farr 115 will have to console herself by competing with the brand new Firefly, a Dutch 115 footer created by Hoek Design and built in 2011 at the Jachtbouw yard.

As regards the series boats, all the major French and overseas yards will be present at Les Voiles. Leading the way is Bénéteau, with thirty Firsts, including five First 45s of under three years of age, closely followed by Nautor Swan which is to have a new 90 footer on the start line this year in the form of sailing yacht Nefertiti. At Dufour meantime, the most recent craft is a French 45 footer, Cristeban. There’s also going to be some fierce battling among the Grand Soleils, X Yachts, Archambauds and Baltics, which each boast at least half a dozen entries.

Traditional craft: a record in excess of 115 boats expected

Among the traditional craft the major event in 2011 is unquestionably the arrival of Hispania. This gaff cutter features two unique qualities in that it is one of the most beautiful craft from the golden age of yachting to be designed by William Fife, as well as belonging to the ‘royal’ 15 m JI class. Built in 1909 on the order of HRH the King of Spain Alphonso XIII, this 23 metre long boat first enjoyed success during the numerous international races her owners had her compete in, whilst simultaneously enhancing the prestige of the Spanish regattas as major sights for the yachting world. However, her glorious past and her royal origins were to fade little by little, until such time as she sank into oblivion. Indeed she was used as a floating house in England for more than thirty years. She was in a pitiful state when she was found some 15 years ago in mud flats by the historian William Collier and Jonathan Syrett of Camper and Nicholson International. Thanks to the participation of the Real Fundacion Hispania, the cutter, whose hull was buried in mud and no longer had a keel, was transported to Fairlie Restorations on the Hamble River, England, which began the complete restoration of the hull prior to its transfer to the shipyards of Majorca. As a result Hispania will be at Les Voiles this year for the very first time and she’ll complete the Carré d’Or for the 15 m JIs as she does battle with the illustrious Tuiga from the Yacht Club de Monaco, Mariska and The Lady Anne. Three of these exceptional yachts** will notably form part of the first edition of the centenarians’ race organised in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez and the Yacht Club de Gstaad on Thursday 29 September.

Built in 1937 from Olin Stephens plans, Manitou (18m90) is a very elegant Marconi yawl, whose claim to fame was that she was used by John F. Kennedy during his presidency. Indeed the yacht even had the title “Floating White House”. Kitted out with all the lastest technologies of the time, she enabled the President of the United States to stay in touch with land during his sails along the western seaboard. Having continued her career as a training school, the boat underwent a thorough refit in 2010 and will be making her very first appearance in Les Voiles.

Another yawl, but a very rare gaff yawl this time, will also be present in the bay. Built in 1918 at the Nielsen yard in Denmark, Runa IV (10m73) cannot deny its Viking origins. This wooden racer with its long keel was saved from destruction in 2009 by Yves Carcelle, who brought her back from San Francisco to have her entirely restored at the Guip yard in Brest. Bruno Troublé, who followed the whole project, will be her skipper for Les Voiles de Saint Tropez where the boat’s characteristic outline – bowsprit and dolphin striker – won’t go unnoticed. It may even be that Elisabeth Meyer, the American owner who drove the restoration of Endeavour, will be aboard for some of the races in Saint Tropez.

Among the ‘newcomers’ we’re also keenly awaiting Skylark (16m), an elegant yawl designed by Stephens in 1937, which is a boat restored by Tara Getty, a descendant of the Getty dynasty. Other splendid restorations by her include the motor yacht Blue Bird as well as Palynodie II (12m), one of the first mainstays in the saga of racing yachts belonging to the famous Mayor of Marseille, Gaston Defferre.

Alongside the impressive number of representatives of varying sizes and types of boats retracing the metric measurement through history – around twenty in total from 6 M to 8 M, 10 M,12 M, 15 M, 19 M and 23 M, with gaff and Bermuda rigs -, connoisseurs will appreciate the presence of one of the very pretty fleet of six 30m2 craft. Indeed these ‘little’ boats span a dozen metres and are very sleek combined with a large sail area, which makes them particularly spectacular on the race course.

Also of note is the fact that Les Voiles will this year play host to a fleet of around twenty Tofinou 9m50s, the dayboats designed by Michel Joubert and built by the Latitude yard in Saint-Martin de Ré off La Rochelle. Given the sizeable fleet, they will enjoy their own courses and their own ranking.

* 4,240 is the number of participants as of 30 August 2011: 2,500 modern craft, 1,400 traditional craft, 200 Wallys and 150 Tofinous

**The Lady Anne dates back to 1912
