22nd Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta

Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta, one of the biggest naval organizations of Turkey, sponsored by Ant Yapi and MM Proje has started with ceremonies. 51 yachts, 10 of which bearing foreign flags are attending the regatta. Including the yachts attending the regatta as spectators and the ones working for the organization committee, the number of yachts that will be following the race course will exceed 80.

Participants and spectators of the race had a great time at Iskel Square with DJ’s, dance groups, band and animation shows.

After the briefing at the Azka Hotel, the participants were given a cocktail by Kule Bar Rock City.

Mayor of Bodrum, Mr. Mehmet Kocadon gave a speech to the participants, signifying the importance of sailing for Bodrum and wished them plenty of wind. Mr. Kocadon, also stating that they was were pleased to see the intense interest for the Bodrum Yacht Festival, which was held for the first time, started the regatta by ringing the starting bell with Mr. Erman Aras, chairman of Era Bodrum Sailing Club. They were accompanied by Gumusluk mayor Mehmet Tire, representative for Kalymnos municipality Vassilis Psarompas and famous Turkish sailor Sadun Boro.

The participants enjoyed the evening with the concert of Yeni Türkü, sponsored by Kule Bar.

First Day Excitement on 22nd Bodrum Cup

The participants of Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta, sponsored by Ant Yapi and MM Proje completed the MM Proje Course on the first day of the races. Departing from Bodrum, 51 yachts, 10 of which bearing foreign flags reached Didim, following a 26 NM course.

Start was given in delay, because lack of the wind. STS Bodrum became the first to complete the race in Traditional Yachts Bodrum Cup Mega Category, Montenegro in Bodrum Cup Traditional and Bodrum Cup Tirhandil Categories. Extasea was the first to cross the finish line in Performance Cruiser Wooden Yachts class and Swansong in guest yachts.

After the race, the participants enjoyed the evening with the concert of Äzmir Municipality Pop Orchestra.

MM Insaat, one of the main sponsors of the regatta, giving its name to the first course of the races, is one  leading companies in Turkish construction sector. MM Proje is the undertaking sector representative of Dervişoğlu Şirketler Grubu, Founded in Instanbul by Mr. Halit Öztürk, operating in Design, Construction, Undertaking, Consulting and Tourism sectors.

Second Course Completed at 22nd Bodrum Cup

The participants of Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta, sponsored by Ant Yapi and MM Proje raced on the 15 NM D-Marin Didim Triangular route, on CNR Eurasia Boat Show Course on the second day of the races.

Prior to the race, “Yoga Academy” made a workshop on breathing techniques for the participants. STS Bodrum became the first to complete the race in Traditional Yachts Bodrum Cup Mega Category as they were in the first day, Montenegro in Bodrum Cup Traditional Category and Tirhandil Categories. Extasea was the first to cross the finish line in Performance Cruiser Wooden Yachts class and Swansong in guest yachts.

According to the cumulative results of the first two days of the races, STS Bodrum ranks the first in Traditional Yachts Bodrum Cup Mega Category, Montenegro in Bodrum Cup Traditional Category and Tirhandil Categories. Extasea ranks the first  in Performance Cruiser Wooden Yachts class and Swansong in guest yachts.

The events for the evening awaiting the participants was the cocktail sponsored by D-Marin Didim, dress contest among the racing teams and the concert of Blue Notes Orchestra. Team Kaptan Yarkin won the “Fanciest Dressed team” prize with King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table outfits, Imrenim team won the jury’s special prize with hospital theme, Sami II won the “best dressed team” prize with yoga academy outfits and Buyuk Yunus won the jury’s special prize.

CNR Eurasia Boat Show, leading the trade in the sector and drawing great interest of sea lovers and media, is the second biggest ship and yacht fair in the world. It will be ready to give the captain’s salutation to its visitors between February 11-20, 2011 at CNR Expo Fair Center.

Third Course Completed at 22nd Bodrum Cup

The participants of Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta, sponsored by Ant Yapi and MM Proje raced on the 24,5 NM Ant Yapi Course and participating yachts arrived in Kalymnos Island, Greece.

Mayor of Kalymnos, Mr. George Raussos, inviting Bodrum Cup Organization to Kalymnos with the purpose of developing the cultural and sports relations between two countries stated that it was a great pleasure for them to see Turkish sailing fan competitors in their country and they wished to have increasing number of such organizations. The mayor of Kalymnos, Mr. George Raussos and the mayor of Bodrum, Mr. Mehmet Kocadon exchanged plaquettes and had picture of friendship taken together with the other members of protocol. Kalymnos bishop, Port Treasury officer Michalis Mboukis, Municipal tourism president Irini Halkiti, Kalymnos port authority Yiannis Athineos, Kalymna sailing club president Yorgos Karaiskos, and commodore Vassilis Kapadakis hosted the night in Kalymnos Cathedral square. Guests were very happy to arrive and they spent marvellous time visiting the island of divers and rock climbers.

People gathered around the sailors danced to Greek folk music, drinking local wine and tasting local bread.

At the Ant Yapi Course, STS Bodrum became the first to complete the race in Traditional Yachts Bodrum Cup Mega Category, Buyuk Yunus in Bodrum Cup Traditional Category and Dragon Fly in Bodrum Cup Tirhandil Category. Extasea was the first to cross the finish line in Performance Cruiser Wooden Yachts class and Swansong in guest yachts.

LAST COURSES FINISHED AT THE 22nd BODRUM CUP! WINNERS BACK IN BODRUM

Participants of The Bodrum Cup, sponsored by Ant Yapi and MM Proje, started from Kalymnos island of Greece and arrived in Bodrum after an exciting race.

STS BODRUM Sail Training Ship was the first to arrive in the finish line, winning the Bodrum Cup in Mega Category. Montenegro won two cups in The Bodrum Cup Traditional and Tirhandil Categories. Extasea in Performance Cruiser, Swansong in Guest yachts won the first prizes.

In overall regatta trophy class, Montenegro won the Bodrum Municipality prize, and Swansong won the Fisherman of Halikarnas prize, becoming the first in all yachts.

The ceremony started with the cocktail at Halikarnas The Club. Turkish and foreign guests tasted local food, enjoyed the concert by Oojami. The night continued with the prize giving ceremony.

THE BODRUM CUP 22nd CROSSES THE FINISH LINE WITH WINNERS’ SHOOTOUT

After completing the Bodrum Cup, winners and first runner up of every category came up on a duel, the winners’ shootout. This was the first time ever Gulets meet in a match race in the world.

In category The Bodrum Cup Tirhandil Cocotte versus Knidos, Knidos won.

Category The Bodrum Cup Traditional Montenegro versus Dragonfly, Montenegro won.

Category The Bodrum Cup Mega Sts Bodrum versus SiYu, Sts Bodrum won.

Category The Bodrum Cup Gulets Ayaz versus Elele II, Elele II won.

Prize giving ceremony was held in Iskele square. Prior to that, a memorial plaquette was presented to the veteran captains and sailors of Bodrum. Then the governor and mayor of Bodrum presented awards to the winners of the shootout.
