Luxury Motor Yacht Captain - Dominic Armistead (British)

Captain Dominic began work in the yachting industry in 1995 and has since worked on a wide spectrum of both sailing and motor yachts. Dominic studied Yacht Manufacture Management and began his career by taking on various seasonal positions to familiarise himself with the industry. Dominic’s first professional role was as Mate onboard 44m Schooner ZACA A TE MOANA, before moving on to the 30m Ketch KENTRA, 28m Ketch CYCLOS II and 40m M.Y CATALONIAN, which was his first charter yacht. In between working on these vessels, he studied for his Class IV, Master. Dominic decided to focus his career on Private and Charter yachts which has brought him to his position on IL CIGNO today. While working onboard 50m M/Y MOSAIQUE as 1st Officer he was responsible for the exterior maintenance of the yacht and he was the first point of call for all safety and security issues. During this time he cruised the Indian Ocean, the Adriatic and East and West Mediterranean. Dominic’s first role as Captain, before he joined IL CIGNO, was onboard 32m Motor yacht SEA RAIDER IV where he chartered through Florida, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands and the East and West Mediterranean, adding to his sound knowledge of the seas. As the Captain of IL CIGNO Dominic proves to be reliable and knowledgeable and has a proven success with charter guests. Dominic has a good knowledge of French and Spanish and in his free time enjoys kite surfing, numerous water sports, mountain biking, reading, music and keeping fit.

Luxury Yacht Chef - Kdn Lyne (Australian)

Kdn loves to cook a variety of dishes from French to South East Asian to Australian Fusion, demonstrating his wide range of culinary skills. After obtaining various qualifications in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality Practices and Hospitality Operations, Kdn began his career as a Demi Chef at Forty One in Sydney, a French influenced fine dining restaurant. Early in his career, Kdn took on a variety of roles such as Chef de Partie at French, Italian and Asian fusion restaurants, Head Chef at the Surf Travel Company in Indonesia where he prepared European and South East Asian cuisine for this private charter boat compan and as Senior Chef de Partie at Dish Restaurant and Raw Bar in Byron Bay, Australia. He then joined 18m M/Y ARIMBI as Head Chef in 2005 where he was responsible for the training of local chefs in western cooking practices, menu planning, stock control and catering for up to 12 guests and 6 crew for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prior to joining the crew on IL CIGNO he was also Head Chef on board 27m M/Y HUEY 11 and 47m S/Y MIKADO. Kdn has travelled extensively during his career which is evident in his first class international cuisine. In his free time, Kdn enjoys water sports such as surfing and wakeboarding and is also into snowboarding, yoga, reading and eating out.

Luxury Yacht Engineer - Ayon Smith (Jamaican)

Ayon has competed several qualifications such as an Associate Degree at the Caribbean Maritime Institute and certificates from both the Jamaica Institute of Management and the National Tool and Engineering Institute, to name a few. As part of his marine engineer training Ayon worked for Ocean Marine Ltd where he took part in a project to repair M/V CORAH ANN. Ayon began his career as an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer at the Jamaica Private Power Company and then progressed to Mechanical Engineer at Barnaby Engineering and Testing Services Ltd in Jamaica. During this time he also took on the role of Project Supervisor at various locations all over the island. His most recent role was as a Marine Engineer in Training at the Port Authority of Jamaica/Maritime Transportation in which he worked onboard yacht including M/V PORT MARIA and M/V OCHO RIOS. Ayon is passionate about his role on board IL CIGNO and helps to ensure the smooth running of the yacht.

Deckhand/Engineer – Philip Hopson (British)

Philip has always been fascinated by sailing and water sports. He joined the crew of 33m ZEBU at the young age of 13 and learnt a wide variety of traditional and modern practical skills. Philip then spent four years working onboard ZEBU before joining 19m Sailing yacht THE MATTHEW where he spent a short stretch as a Deckhand. In the following months, Philip took on various roles on yachts in the 11-20m range such as Engineer, Watch Leader and Skipper. During this time he was responsible for boat repairs and maintenance, paint finishing and deck care, as well as many other duties. Before to joining IL CIGNO, Philip worked on board 40m M/Y LIONSHARE to work on a major refit during 2008 giving him a great introduction to the super yacht industry. Philip’s passions are cars and travelling.

Luxury Yacht Deckhand - Nicholas Ward (British)

Nick completed a BSc in Industrial Management at Nottingham Trent University. Throughout his sea-faring career, Nick has gained substantial experience as Deckhand, making him an expert in his field. Having been a member of a yacht club in Suffolk and spending many weekends dinghy sailing with friends then working in various roles following his time at university, Nick decided that his heart was at sea. His first role was as Varnisher onboard M/Y CHRISTINA O, where he spent a week varnishing the yacht within a team of 5 and helping out with the general exterior maintenance of the yacht. Nick then became Deckhand onboard M/Y BLIND DATE as a day worker, often relied on to work unsupervised and under his own initiative. Over the following four years, he took on day work onboard various yachts in South of France and short term contracts onboard yachts such as M/Y NOBLE HOUSE and M/Y EL BOSCO V, cruising the French Riviera, Italy, Corsica and Sardinia. Nick is a hardworking, versatile and enthusiastic member of the IL CIGNO crew. He loves to skiing and sailing and has developed an interest in wakeboarding, surfing, snorkelling and spear fishing since travelling through South East Asia, Europe and Central America.
