Chase Swan 40 | From US$ 2,750 /wk

Chase is a 40-foot Swan. Her lines were sculpted by the masters of yacht design, Sparkman & Stevens. She exhibits a wonderful compromise between the aesthetics of yesterday, and the performance of today. Her long overhangs and graceful sheer combine with a hull and rig designed to work quickly and easily to windward. And her builders didn't skimp on the ruggedness of her materials. She'll draw comments in every harbor—no small feat in a state renowned for it's classic boats!
Chase is a Swan 40, designed by Sparkman and Stephens and built in Finland. Nautor's Swans are regarded as one of the finest sailing yachts available, and there are only a few like her in New England.

During her early life in the Great Lakes, she acquired an impressive racing record. She was later purchased by the actor Christopher Reeve (of Superman fame), who sailed her in New England for many years.

All of Chase's gear and accommodations underwent a total refit in 2002. The work – which included all new electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, rigging, structural improvements, engine rebuild, etc. - was performed by professionals at the Landing Boat School's Systems Program. The result is a classic boat that is in brand-new condition. The present owner's love of sailing and classic boats is reflected in the attention to detail that's been used in fitting her with the finest gear. His extended experience in coastal and offshore sailing means Chase's equipment is functional, sturdy, and practical – and that it always works.
In October 2001, Chase was moved to the Landing School in Kennebunkport, Maine. The Landing School is renowned for it's marine curriculum, which includes their Boat Building Program, Design Program, and the Systems Program. Chase is being totally refitted by the students of the System Program, who are using her as their educational "platform". As you can see from these pictures, this is no small refit - bulkheads, through-hulls, hatches, ports, instruments, wiring, plumbing, etc., etc., are all being fully replaced. And, some new stuff is being added: winches, a rebuilt rudder, a hydraulic autopilot, refrigeration. The other thing you'll see from the pictures is the skill with which the work is being done... we're looking forward to an all-new Chase in the Spring!
Chase is outfitted and rigged for all conditions. For instance: all running rigging runs to the cockpit, there's a windlass for easy anchoring, and reefing is a snap. She’s been modernized with large battery capacity, a high-output alternator, an autopilot, and a powerful inverter/charger. Her sails are of recent vintage, she has a folding prop, and she drives like a Cadillac!

Chase is laid out for the most discriminating of tastes, while maintaining distinct attention to her classic traditions. You’ll find everything - from her ultra-suede cushions, to her well cared-for paint and brightwork - to be in the Bristol condition that she (and her passengers) deserve.

Professionally managed and maintained, we insure that Chase will be in tip top working order prior to your charter.
All systems will be checked, filled and delivered to you in the finest working condition. Yacht Management Services will also ensure that any problem—no matter where it occurs—is taken care of promptly.
