Born in La Rochelle, France, Philippe is is now based in London from where he continues expressing his passion for creating some of the world's best known yachts. His design career started when he was 16 and already an accomplished dinghy sailor. At the age of 18 he joined the Swedish designer Pelle Petterson as an apprentice who gave him invaluable experience in the design of America's Cup vessels and series-production sailing yachts; introducing him to the world of advanced hydrodynamics, tank testing of hulls, computer-aided design and production engineering.
In 1978 he established his own company, with yachts of his own design winning the 1983 Half-Ton Cup and the 1984 One-Ton Cup. In 1991 he designed two of the three yachts in the winning French Admiral's Cup team; following which he took on the job of designing for the French and Swiss America's Cup teams.
