Off the eastern coast of Queensland lie the world’s two largest sand islands which protect the coast from the open seas, making it a stunning area to cruise on a bareboat yacht. The islands are Fraser Island and North Stradbroke Island. Fraser Island attained a World Heritage Listing in December 1992 in recognition of the island's exceptional sand dune systems, its rainforests on sand, and its beautiful freshwater lakes. The island is renown for the fishing from the ocean beaches along the eastern coast. A bareboat charter around Fraser Island and Brisbane is great at any time of year. The breezes are strong and constant during summer, but tend to fall a little in winter. The summer months, from November to April, draw average temperatures of 18-27 degrees. January to March are usually the months of highest rainfall with hot days followed by occasional tropical storms. From May to October, winter temperatures average at around 17 degrees Celsius.
