Union Island Yacht Charter, Grenadines
Also known as the Tahiti of the Caribbean, Union Island is a great yacht charter destination to include in your Grenadines yacht charter itinerary. It is the southernmost island of the Grenadines, lying 90 kilometers southwest of Barbados and is within view of the islands of Carriacou and the mainland of Grenada, which lie directly south.
Union Island is sometimes called the Tahiti of the West Indies due to its dramatic silhouette formed through volcanic activity. At 3 miles long and 1 mile wide its tallest point Mt. Parnassus reaches 999ft. The island has 3000 residents, and relies on tourism as its main livelihood. The main town of Clifton offers small boutique shops and quaint bars and restaurants, all painted in vibrant Caribbean colours. There are several local bars and restaurants overlooking the harbor including Lambi’s and the Anchorage Yacht Club. In May, the island celebrates the beginning of the planting season with the Maroon Festival. Easterval is held each year during the four days around Easter.
The island has an international airport which has domestic flights to Saint Vincent and some of the Grenadines and international flights to Barbados, Carriacou, Grenada and Martinique.
Union is a great island to enjoy while on your Caribbean sailing holiday, offering great hiking, beautiful deserted beaches and a bustling town, Clifton Harbour. All of the usual yacht charter rentals are available here including motor yachts, sailing yachts,(both monohull and catamaran) and superyachts.
