Yacht Savannah: Reviewed

A detailed review of the incredible charter yacht Savannah.

Motor Yacht Savannah is an award winning and heralded eco-friendly Feadship superyacht which threw out convention in yacht design and performance. Unconventional in good ways, she has won the hearts of many yacht loving professionals from around the world and continues to display some of the most inspired exterior and interior design of her time. Her electro-mechanical propulsion, as powered by a Wärtsilä 9L20 40 stroke engine, brings quiet world cruising at low speeds on battery power and faster speeds with the engine running. This hybrid yacht which is 84m (273ft) in length was designed to integrate the vessel with the seas. Her superstructure, the enormous open aft deck and glass panelling throughout make every inch of the Savannah futuristic in the world of charter yachts. She received many accolades at the 2016 Show Boats Design Awards ceremony collecting three Neptune trophies. These trophies were for “Interior Layout and Design”, “Holistic Design” and “Exterior Styling and Design”. She also won the “Best Motor Yacht 1,300GT to 2,999GT” award at the World Superyachts Awards in 2016. Now that was ground breaking!

With her single propeller, medium speed diesel engine and electrically driven stern thruster, the Savannah can be operated between four operational modes. This in turn enables the vessel to cruise in a most eco-friendly way. Maximum speeds of 14 knots can be reached and when higher speeds are needed, the generators and main engine can be utilised. Further power from the batteries enable the Savannah to sail at 18 knots. The propeller which is larger than on other vessels of the same size ensures efficiency while reducing vibrations and noise.

The Design

Unique designs make Savannah stand out from the crowd. Ideal for charter vacations there are many features guests can enjoy while on board. How about the underwater lounge on the port side? This is a structure where guests can see exciting marine life outside or watch swimmers in the 9m swimming pool. The lounge has thick glass due to its position in the hull and can also be changed into a cinema.

Take a look at the tender bay which is finished off in teak. A hatch doubles up as a mooring platform. Once you dock at one of the beautiful locations on your journey, walk inside the garage then take the stairs to the main deck.

With accommodation for up to 12 guests in six state rooms Savannah has a VIP suite (with private balcony), four guest suites and of course a stunning master suite. For the 26 crew members, there’s plenty of comfortable accommodation too.

Entertainment Areas

There are many interior areas that are impressive helping to create a continuity between outdoor and indoor entertainment spaces. The Parisian company CG Design was responsible for producing a layout that is based on curved lines. Ceilings, furniture, surface patterns and walls have a fluidity about them making the entire interior a flowing spectacle.
