Pylos is a popular Greece yacht charter destination with rugged landscapes wherever you look. Two medieval castles overlook the coast while Pylos itself is set among the beautiful scenery of the Messenia region in the Peloponnese. With its picturesque natural harbour and delightful nearby Sfaktira Island, the lively town of Pylos also has stunning anchorages.
Navarino Bay is almost enclosed with splendid dark blue waters and a white sandy beach. In town, there is a huge plane tree which provides shade, perfect if you’re having a coffee in one of the trendy nearby cafes. There are lots of boutiques and tavernas in the central square of Platia Trion Navarhon to spend lazy afternoons. Explore the town to discover relics left from the famous Battle of Navarino, war memorials and the picturesque Neo Kastro castle built in 1572. There’s another castle in Pylos called Kastro Navarinou or Paleo Kastro which is located on a hill ridge along with its acropolis. This castle has the most splendid Venetian facades and towering walls that create an imposing appearance.
Pylos also provides the ideal base to visit nearby towns and islets. Discover beautiful coves along the coastline on your superyacht charter. For keen snorkellers the tiny island of Sfaktira offers a great diving experience. Spend an afternoon on a family adventure and search for the remains of the of the Turkish fleet which lies on the sea bed.
Around 12km along the coast from Pylos is Voidhokilia, a spectacular beach with a crescent of white sand. Nesting turtles can be found here along with a bird conservation area. Nestor’s Palace and the lovely market town of Hora (Hora Trifylias) are just two locations for a wonderful day ashore.
