Motor Yacht BG by Feadship: Reviewed

Built by the De Vries yard at Feadship motor yacht BG oozes charm, sophistication, elegance and lots of style. She was refitted in 2015 and brought right up to date with a Hampton Beach House interior designed by Dee Dee Eustace of Taylor Hannah Architects. The BG can accommodate up to 12 guests in six luxurious cabins. The dining room has a rosewood and patina table with a stunning wine wardrobe that holds 120 bottles of the best vintages.

With her outside dining and entertaining areas, projector screen, a huge sun pad and fabulous Jacuzzi, the BG also has zero speed stabilisers. These provide a smooth and comfortable ride whether at anchor or sailing on the high seas.

BG is 47m (154ft) in length and was the first Feadship to be electronically steered. No longer having a wheel but the latest in technology to steer her, she is a state-of-the-art superyacht. The stunning interior resembles a Newport beach house with exquisite furnishings wherever you look. The refit of the BG took a year and a half to complete. The dining saloon was extensively converted into a VIP state room with en suite bathroom.

The master suite was also enlarged with the his and hers bathrooms being altered into a single, large bathroom. This beautiful superyacht was shortlisted for the “Best Refit” Award at the World Superyacht Awards 2016. All of the old dark carpets were replaced with hardwood flooring. When this project was being carried out, a layer of rubber and lead soundproofing were found lining each floor as well as every wall. These features and newly installed Quantum zero speed stabilisers make sure guests have a very quiet and pleasurable ride.

Décor and Furnishings

Step on the oak floor boards which now span the entire yacht. Admire the white walls, furnishings and ceilings. These simple yet stunning finishes are brought alive by grey and colour from the artworks that have been strategically placed around the vessel. There’s a timeless atmosphere on board the BG, one that is helped along by the clever adaptations of some of the existing features.

The main saloon still has its original limed oak panelling which was repainted in white. Lacquer gives the doors a spectacular look with a mix of matt and gloss paintwork on the wooden surfaces. An old rosewood dining table has been made longer with patina panels to seat more guests than it once did.

Check out the fabulous fabrics, window blinds and chrome hardware. A wine wardrobe stretches from the floor to the ceiling, impressive. This wine wardrobe now replaces an old fireplace that once stood there. The covers of the sofa and armchairs can be interchanged from cool, crisp white to elegant grey in a matter of moments to show off the décor even further.

Delightful Accommodation

A VIP cabin has been created on the main deck, close to the master suite. Two king staterooms on any superyacht is quite a rarity. Both of these cabins have en suite bathrooms featuring a tiled checked pattern and Caesar stone counters. The master suite now has a bath tub, great for relaxing in after a day in the sun. This VIP cabin is decorated in white and the sideboard which was once a divider, has been replaced to form a vanity mirror. With its spacious layout and amazing furnishings, the BG is certainly a masterclass superyacht.

For sophistication, bright and airy spaces, the four remaining state rooms tick all the right boxes. These rooms consist of two convertible cabins and two double cabins, all situated on the lower deck. Light colours accent the furnishings making this accommodation a real pleasure to sleep in.

The Upper Deck

A sky lounge on the upper deck has also undergone a complete change. There was a dark, traditional bar at one time which has now been removed. This is a fantastic family room, comfortable, light with a lovely atmosphere.

Out of the double doors aft you will see a huge deck area. Al fresco meals are served here at a large table. There’s more relaxing furniture to chill out on with the wraparound decks leading to secluded sunbathing areas on the foredeck. Also on the sun deck is a Jacuzzi aft and new step-up sun pad areas. These give the most spectacular ocean views. By entering the sun deck via a passage way on a raised platform, attentive crew can provide guests who are sunbathing, with cool refreshments.

More seating has been strategically placed on the aft deck which lets the crew prepare the area for different activities. Sunbathe during the day and have a few drinks in the evening, under the stars, what could be better on a yacht charter vacation?
The BG still has an original feel to it; however, the recent refit has brought her right up to date. The classic, stylish exterior is awesome while the interior is timeless, stunning and functional. She is the ideal vessel if you would like an unbeatable and memorable yacht charter vacation.
